This position is for a Principle Digital Hardware Design Engineer reporting into the Digital product development group. The successful candidate will develop technology for high performance, precision digital instrumentation. Strong grasp of hardware issues such as digital circuit logic design, high speed transmission lines, frequency domain analysis are required. The position will require hands on characterization and debugging as well. Knowledge of laboratory equipment such as oscilloscopes and spectrum analyzers is needed. While the job is primarily hardware focused, some knowledge of RTL design and software will also be needed. Experience within the electronics test industry is a definite plus. As your career progresses, you will have the opportunity to work closely with marketing and applications to provide input to instrumentation strategies and future product developments. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Some understanding of digital instrument for ATE test equipment such as tester period generation, vernier and RTD design would be a big plus. Digital timing analysis, understand of different clock topologies, clock forwarded & embedded clock are part of the responsibilities. Ability to generate high level functional block diagram base on requirement from product marketing. Estimate circuit power consumption based on high level functional block diagram. Translate high level functional block diagram into detail circuit design using Cadence Concept Schematic Capture tool. Work with CAD design engineer to move schematic design into PCB artwork. Requires some basic understanding or experience in artwork layout tool such as Allegro Work with ASIC design house to define ASIC requirement and assists in ASIC design Generate theory of operation for circuit and define circuit test strategy including test setup and limits. Circuit features and functional debug and instrument bring up. Detail characterization of circuit behavior and validate circuit to actual specification. Education and/or Experience: MSEE preferred, BSEE will be considered. Excellent academic record. 10-15 years’ experience in any form of test equipment development is a big plus. Strong circuit design knowledge, both gate level and transistor level. Some understand of ASIC design process. Ability to understand and create hardware block diagrams and schematics. Ability to understand engineering, manufacturing, and customer requirements. Ability to cooperatively develop with engineers from other disciplines, including Software, Firmware and Mechanical specialists. Programming skills (C, C++, Python, Lab View, Verilog, etc.) at some level. Simulation skills (Spice, Verilog, 3D field solvers, etc.) Problem solving and debugging skills including the ability to debug in a laboratory. Proven ability to develop quality deliverables on time.
