Position Summary: Prep Cook
It is the primary responsibility of the prep cook to execute the prep list provided by the KM in a timely manner. All duties are to be performed in accordance with company policies and procedures.
Essential Functions and Tasks:
- Prepares all items according to the recipes.
- Ensures all products are rotating on a first-in, first-out philosophy.
- Ensures all requisitions are processed properly and placed in designated area.
- Properly labels and dates all products to ensure safekeeping and sanitation.
- Applies basic knife skills required for preparation.
- Assists cooks as needed in execution of service.
- Maintains complete knowledge of and complies with all departmental policies,
- procedures, and standards.
- Maintains complete knowledge of correct maintenance and use of equipment.
- Monitors and maintains cleanliness, sanitation, and organization of assigned work areas.
- Maintains station with state sanitation/health regulations in mind.
- Maintains professionalism.
- Adheres to company standards, including personal hygiene and appearance.
- Adheres to health department codes regarding food sanitation and handling.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the kitchen manager.
Required:
- At least one year of previous experience in a similar position, preferably in a fast casual environment.
- Exhibit a basic knowledge, understanding, and application of various cooking techniques.
- Maintain solid knowledge of all food products and is able to skillfully apply culinary techniques.
- Maintain a solid menu knowledge and attention to detail with plate presentation.
- Have interpersonal skills to deal effectively with all business contacts.
- Professional appearance and demeanor.
- Work varied shifts, including weekends and holidays.
- Able to effectively communicate in English, in both written and oral forms.
- Food safety certified.
- Be able to work in a standing position for long periods of time.
- Be able to reach, bend, stoop, and frequently lift up to 55 pounds.
Working Conditions:
Work performed in climate-controlled environment with occasional hot and cold temperature changes. Team member will be required to stand on concrete floors, tiles/mats, and walk on uneven or wet surfaces. Team member will be exposed to knives and mechanical kitchen equipment. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
