Position Overview
The trader’s primary responsibility is executing trade recommendations for firm portfolio strategies and ad-hoc client accounts as directed by the Operations Department or Chief Investment Officer. The trader will be responsible for executing trades in a timely and accurate fashion.
In addition to trading responsibilities, the trader will also provide investment and operational support to Saxon Financial Group’s investment team by preparing reports and analyses that support the investment process and performance of model portfolios. Individuals should also work proactively to enhance our investment and trading process to manage orders and workflows more effectively. The trader must be comfortable with changing priorities, and have the ability to handle urgent requests and then quickly return to planned activities for the day.
Duties and Responsibilities
Trading (80%)
Execute all trades for SFG, whether they directed by the investment team for firm-wide strategies or ad-hoc CIO directed trades.
Ability to execute block orders across the firm account base while striving to:
• Achieve best execution
• Manage market liquidity
• Achieve accuracy for client execution
• Execute strategy rebalances in a timely and accurate manner
• Proactively manage cash levels in client accounts to facilitate ongoing distributions or contributions
• Perform tax-loss harvesting for client accounts at the direction of CIO and with coordination with financial advisors
• Ability to document and track trading tasks using firm systems.
• Ensure all accounts have proper benchmarks, targets, and strategies.
• Monitor Black Diamond dashboard to ensure accounts are within tolerance, have appropriate levels of cash, etc. and trade as appropriate.
• Update Strategies and Models in Black Diamond as needed
Reporting (20%)
Support the CIO in providing routine reporting materials
Maintain firm trading compliance procedures including:
• Trade blotter reporting
• Trade error reporting and reconciliation
• Firm trade log
• Provide regular reporting on allocation drift in firm investment portfolios to manage risk.
• Assist compliance with reports to identify accounts not invested according to Strategy/Target
KPIs (Key Performance Indicators)
• Create monthly trading calendar annually and update as needed throughout the year.
• Analyze and harvest tax losses on a monthly basis, when appropriate and material.
• Provide CIO with Performance Deviation report monthly highlighting accounts deviating from their respective models and rationale for deviation.
• Provide CIO with monthly report identifying number of accounts in SFG models
• Analyze mutual fund capital gains distributions versus unrealized gains/losses annually (November)
• Create Realized Gains/Losses report annually (January) to track cumulative gains/losses from prior year.
• Run Trade Reconciliation reports and update/correct as needed
• Research fund tradability and transaction fees on custodial platforms as needed
• Maintain model fund asset equivalent assignments in Black Diamond
Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree
• Have interest in pursuing Series 65 license
• Strong financial and analytical skills
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to identify, meet and follow through with client needs and requirements
• Must be a self-starter, problem solver and a goal-oriented team player with a ‘no job is beneath me’ attitude
• Organized, with a strong attention to detail
• Able to perform multiple tasks efficiently
• Show confidence, yet in a humble manner, when dealing with clients, firm advisors and wealth managers
• Knowledge in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Power Point
