SUMMARY OF CLASSIFICATION
Answers emergency calls for service within the Police and Fire Departments. Types correspondence and reports; and enters other data as necessary. Performs other duties as assigned.
BUDGETARY RESPONSIBILITIES
No budgetary responsibilities.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES
Operates emergency dispatch equipment through the use of radio equipment and dispatches emergency vehicles and officers to the scene. Records information and requests information from police information networks.
Verifies driver's licenses and warrants through the TCIC/NCIC network. Enters current information into the system as provided by the department.
Greets citizens and provides information regarding the department, and directs them to the appropriate employee. Prepares correspondence, reports and other written materials. Takes complaints and requests for services for the police department.
PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS
Ability to move about an office or building. Must be able to check on prisoners and assist with injured prisoners as may be necessary. Frequent sitting.
REQUIRED CONTACTS
Employee works with the public or other employees directly when acting as a receptionist, answering inquiries, processing information or making referrals to the proper staff person.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge, Abilities and Skills
Ability to read and understand manuals in order to record work activities, computer skills. Skill in operation and maintenance of office machines and equipment such as computers, copiers and facsimile machines. Skill in typing and word processing, with ability to type at least 35 wpm. Skill and experience in the operation of computerized systems in order to enter or retrieve police related information. Ability to work and make quick decisions under brief periods of very high stress. Flexibility in work scheduling, able to handle multi-tasks. Exhibit initiative and possess organizational skills
Minimum Education, Experience and Certification - High school diploma or High School equivalency certificate, plus one to three years of experience working in a clerical position preferred. Must obtain Basic Telecommunicator's Certificate from Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Standards (TCOLE) within the first year of employment. Experience with two-way radios and computerized police systems preferred.
**A comprehensive Personal History Statement may be required prior to an interview being scheduled. The Personal History Statement will be required of all police positions requiring licensure. This process will be initiated by a designee of the Azle Police Department who will provide further instructions upon contact.**
