About the Job
New England Aquarium is seeking an experienced Plumber to join the Campus Operations Team and contribute to the maintenance of the vast plumbing systems that keep the animal collection safe and the facilities operating at peak performance. The Plumber, inspects, overhauls, and repairs all plumbing systems throughout the Aquarium and collaborates with individual departments and the Campus Operations team to provide a high level of service to the organization. This position is part of the Service Employees International Union (SEIU), Local 32BJ, District 615.
This is a full-time regular position offering a comprehensive benefits package. The schedule will be Monday-Friday. Work must be conducted onsite at both the Boston and Quincy campuses.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
1.Works within preventive maintenance system to maintain plumbing systems at all Aquarium facilities (i.e., pumps, filtering systems, piping systems, steam, water, and compressed air systems).
2.Inspects, overhauls, and repairs components of our plumbing systems throughout the Aquarium complexes in Boston and Quincy.
3.Lays out projects, prepares materials list, and completes installations or repairs when assigned.
4.Performs maintenance requests on all plumbing systems as submitted in the Corrective Maintenance Management System to assist other divisions at the Aquarium.
5.Assists during snow removal operations.
6.Assists other colleagues in Facilities as needed.
7.Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Training and Experience
•High School diploma or equivalent.
•Must hold at a minimum, a Massachusetts Apprentice Plumber License or equivalent.
•Minimum of three years' experience with plumbing systems including maintaining pumps, filtration systems, and other plumbing systems.
•Welding, electrical and chiller/HVAC experience preferred.
•Experience using a Corrective Maintenance Management System preferred.
•Valid drivers' license.
•MA Hoist License or a willingness to train and obtain a license required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
•Ability to take initiative and work independently to complete assigned tasks.
•Strong communications skills and the ability to provide excellent service to internal customers.
•Organized and able to plan projects and execute them in a timely fashion.
•Ability to lift up to 59 lbs. regularly and occasionally up to 100 lbs. or more
