- 1. Rapid evaluation and stabilization of critical conditions involving adult, pediatric, medical, surgical, gynecologic and obstetrical illnesses and trauma-related injuries. Resuscitation of acutely ill and injured patients in all ED clinical areas: the main ED, Fast Track and ED Crisis.
- 2. Obtain a complete patient history of the present medical illness, past medical history, review of systems, and medication list and allergies. Perform a vectored physical examination based on the presenting complaint may include performing a pelvic exam, trauma examination or pediatric assessment. Accurately document patient findings of the physical examination, history, allergies, treatment, response to treatment, and consultants' reports in a timely manner.
- 3. Clinically efficient and evaluates an appropriate number of patients per shift and can simultaneously manage multiple patients. Selects the next patient to be seen based on the severity or condition and complaint.
EDUCATION
Graduation from an accredited medical school with an M.D. or D.O. degree and completion of an approved emergency medicine training program with board certification or board eligibility in Emergency Medicine, completion of an approved pediatric residency training program with acute care experience, board certification or board eligibility in Pediatrics, or completion of a Pediatric Emergency Medicine Fellowship training. Board certification must be completed within year one of employment.
EXPERIENCE
One year of related experience preferred.
LICENSURE
M.D. or D. O. degree
SPECIAL SKILLS
Management of acutely ill and injured patients of all ages. Skills that are included in basic and advanced cardiac life support, advanced trauma life support, basic life support, and pediatric advanced life support courses are examples of some of the skills required. Proficiency in the use the departmental computer for patient management, order entry, patient tracking, and laboratory, radiology, and medical record retrieval is essential. Licensure & Certification: Licensed as an MD in Connecticut. Certificates to dispense controlled substances by the federal Drug Enforcement Agency and a permit from the Connecticut Department of Consumer Affairs.
