Pharmacy Technician Per Diem (PRN)
Applications are currently being accepted for Per Diem (PRN) customer service focused Pharmacy Technician to work within the St. John's Episcopal Hospital Outpatient Pharmacy.
St. John’s Episcopal Hospital is the only hospital providing emergency and ambulatory care to the densely populated, culturally and economically diverse, and medically underserved populations of the Rockaways and Five Towns in southern Queens County and southwestern Nassau County, New York. Celebrating over 110 years of community care, the 257-bed facility provides people of all faiths with comprehensive preventive, diagnostic, treatment and rehabilitative services, regardless of ability to pay.
Responsibilities:
The hospital strives to support area residents to achieve optimal health outcomes and quality of life.Services extend beyond inpatient and outpatient care to include outreach to the community to improve health status. Outreach services include behavioral health screening, screening for hypertension, asthma and diabetes, information on health insurance, social work and nutrition counseling, and the Speaker's Bureau, which offers assistance to community organizations by arranging for doctors, nurses, social workers, pastors, nutritionists, and other healthcare professionals who conduct health education on topics such as childbirth and parenting, diabetes, asthma, hypertension, grieving, weight management and nutrition, osteoporosis, cholesterol management, substance abuse, scabies, exercise, aging, depression and emergency care.The hospital's mobile health van offers Education on Wheels programs to support the community’s health initiatives and healthcare partners on the Peninsula.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (This document in no way states or implies that these are
the only duties to be performed by the employee occupying this position):
- Assist pharmacists in providing effective, appropriate, and safe pharmacy services.
- Provide friendly and cooperative customer service.
- Enter patient data accurately.
- Answer telephones quickly and with courtesy.
- Operate the cash register and ring sales.
- Pull and count medication from shelves accurately according to label generated at time of dispensing for final check by Pharmacist.
- Participate in pharmacy orientation programs, training programs for Pharmacy Technicians, pharmacy staff meetings, in-service educational programs and other committees and functions as required by the facility and pharmacy department.
- Assist in maintaining the cleanliness and orderliness of the pharmacy.
- Maintain accurate and complete patient records.
- Assist in inventory control such as auditing receipt of goods, inventorying, stocking, pricing, monitoring usage, and correcting pricing and quantities in the computer.
- Remove, pick up, and/or deliver drug orders if necessary.
- Inform patients of any notations on prescription bag.
- Inform the pharmacist of any alerts form the pharmacy system, such as contraindications, interactions, and allergies.
- Enter and maintain non-preferred drug requests in the PA system.
- Verify NDC number to pull and count medications from shelves.
- Participate in activities resolving unsafe and unsanitary practices.
- Issue supplies to other pharmacies or departments as needed.
- Pre-pack and document medications accurately as needed.
- Participate in the Performance Improvement Program.
- Work cooperatively with other staff members to enhance the team concept.
- Maintains regular attendance according to established policies.
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
- Promptly report any allegations of impropriety to the Compliance Department.
- Comply with Maxor's Ethical Business Conduct policy and Maxor's Compliance Program.
- Remain free from exclusion under the OIG and SAMS Medicare/Medicaid lists.
- Complete required training, as assigned, within the established timeframes.
- Must be able to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position.
Qualifications/Education:
- Current PTCB is strongly preferred. (Maxor will assist)
- HS Diploma/GED required
Experience:
- A minimum of 2 years of prior pharmacy tech experience in a retail setting preferred
- Excellent customer service and communication skills
- Proven computer skills in Microsoft Office
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Excellent communication and customer service skills, both verbal and written
- Ability to problem solve and multi-task
- Demonstrated organizational skills
- Ability to work with a diverse group of people, including patients and physicians
