POSITION SUMMARY:
Assists the Pharmacist in providing service to all areas of the UW Health Hospital. Performs technical duties necessary to prepare and dispense medications. Assist customers in the pharmacy, collect payment and deliver outpatient medications to inpatients. Ensure pharmacy insurance claims are correctly adjudicated through the computer system for reimbursement by working with patients and calling insurance companies to address issues. Participates in continuous quality improvement activities and educational experiences in support of departmental philosophy and objectives, as well as Health System initiatives.

- Current licensure from the State of Illinois. Candidates without a license may work in this role for 60 days from date of license application through Illinois Department of Professional and Financial Regulation.
- Completion of Pharmacy Technician Certification within two (2) years of date license was first issued.
- Pharmacy technicians licensed prior to 2007 do not require Pharmacy Technician Certification.

REQUIRED SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES:

Successful completion of annual clinical, age and job specific competencies and skill verification tools required.
•
Good interpersonal, organizational and critical decision-making skills.
•
Proficiency and ability to use a computer and a variety of common office equipment.
•
Ability to effectively communicate and develop collaborative working relationships with patients, medical staff and the public.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITES:
•
Accurately fills physician orders. Keeps proper records.
•
Accurately delivers medications and collects payment from inpatients
•
Performs the correct calculation for the compounding and packaging of medications.
•
Maintains a safe and clean pharmacy by complying with procedures and regulations.
•
Assists with inventory management by initiating the reorder process. Ensures adequate supply of medication and supplies and maintains accurate pricing.
•
Accurately enters and adjusts, as necessary, all drug charges in the computer following established procedures.
•
Contributes to the department QA/QI projects.
