Libbey is seeking a dynamic, highly motivated, and experienced individual for the position of Payroll & Human Resources Specialist. This position will contribute to the processing of the payrolls in the United States & Canada, payroll related accounting processing and generalist human resources process administration and optimization. This role is vital in ensuring payroll is processed timely and correctly and that our company policies and guidelines ensure optimal and compliant business outcomes. This role reports to the Payroll Manager and works closely with other members of Payroll, HR, Accounting and other groups across the company.
This role is a prime opportunity to gain experience across all functions of Payroll and HR – preparing someone to maximize their specialized skillset and generalist experience. This role will also provide developmental opportunities to continue to grow and learn in our plant human resources environment, in our corporate functions and within specialized areas of benefits, payroll, HRIS, etc.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Accurate and timely processing of payrolls, performing a detailed reconciliation and balancing to identify and resolve any discrepancies.
- Maintain accurate and timely payroll records for all employees. Ensure timekeeping data, hours worked, and wage adjustments are accurate to ensure precise payroll calculations.
- Address and resolve any payroll-related inquiries from employees.
- Generate payroll reports for management and accounting purposes.
- Provide accurate payroll data for audits and financial reporting.
- Ensure compliance with labor laws, tax codes, and company policies related to payroll processing. Stay up to date with federal, state, and local payroll laws and regulations.
- Develop an understanding of pay rules to validate payroll system calculations.
- Contribute to any payroll related upgrade, implementation, or cross functional working team.
- Assist in preparing annual tax forms, such as W-2s, to employees.
- Partners with managers and directors in Human Resources to oversee and participate in special functional or business projects across multiple areas.
- Creates, coaches and guides change management efforts within key tactical, strategic, and transformational initiatives and activities.
- Leverage and maximize all tools, technology, and resources to attract, develop and retain talent and talent solutions.
- Administers and optimizes people end-to-end employment administration procedures with partial support of system enablement (core people data management, recruiting/acquisition, hiring / onboarding, terminations / offboarding, compensation management, unemployment management, policy & compliance management, etc.).
- Leverages people analytics, trends, and insights to drive decision making.

REQUIREMENTS & QUALIFICATIONS
- 2+ years of direct payroll processing experience is required, with proven work experience as a Payroll Specialist or similar role.
- No experience in general HR is required – we are willing to provide that experience.
- Associate degree in Business Administration, Human Resources, Accounting (or similar field of study) is required.
- Accredited payroll certification a plus.
- Experience with payroll processing and human capital management systems is required; Dayforce is a plus.
- Proficiency in MS Office Suite, particularly Excel, SharePoint and Outlook, is required.
- Excellent mathematical and analytical skills with high attention to detail is required.
- Exceptional organizational and time management capabilities are required.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills to collaborate effectively with multiple business functions and all associates is required.
- Proven experience administering and improving processes is required.
- The candidate will be willing to grow and learn in various business environments and across multiple areas of HR (manufacturing, corporate; compliance, recruiting, talent management, benefits, systems, etc.).
REPORTING, TRAVEL, LOCATION
- This position will work onsite, with partial remote flexibility (hybrid).
- The onsite work will be located at our global world headquarters office in Toledo, Ohio.
- This position will report to the company’s Payroll Manager.
- This position will have infrequent travel, 5% or less per year.
