Nonprofit Accountant – Grand Rapids, MI

Salary: $50,000-$60,000 annually (based on experience).
Schedule: 30 hours/week (Monday-Thursday).
Location: In-office, Grand Rapids, MI

Key Responsibilities:

Recording & Financial Reporting

• Record deposits, donations, and pledges, including credit card transactions.
• Track grants and financial reporting, including creating invoices.
• Assist with compliance reporting, including preparing, reviewing, and filing necessary reports.

Allocation Plans & Budgeting

• Create monthly and quarterly cost allocation plans.
• Prepare and monitor organizational budgets.

Payroll

• Serve as a backup for payroll processing (30 employees, bi-monthly, hourly & salaried).
• Review payroll and associated journal entries.

Accounts Payable

• Act as a backup for AP responsibilities.
• Manage journal entries and cross-train to assist with AP tasks.

Additional Duties

• Participate in special projects, such as researching and implementing new accounting software and automating processes.
• Assist with HR-related tasks, including benefits administration, background checks, and policy updates.

Qualifications:

Minimum Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or equivalent experience.
• Experience with nonprofit/fund accounting.
• Proficiency in database programs, payroll systems, Microsoft Office, and accounting software.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with people with disabilities.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with grants and grant compliance.
• Familiarity with system/software changes or implementation projects.
