The Pastor is the visible principle and foundation of unity in the Parish St. Margaret Mary, which the Bishop has entrusted to him. He makes Christ's mission present and enduring in the parish. In order to fulfill his mission, the Pastor employs suitable, chosen collaborators (clerics, religious, or lay people). He shares with them his mission and entrusts various responsibilities to them.
Positions employed at St. Margaret Mary - Cedar Park, Texas help to extend the ministry of the Pastor in particular ways as outlined in the job description. Therefore, the employee in this position is closely connected to and assists the Pastor in the performance of his ministry and thereby engages in ministry for the Church.
Job Summary
The custodial and maintenance technician for a parish is responsible for maintaining cleanliness, safety, and functionality within parish facilities. This includes performing a variety of maintenance tasks such as repairs, inspections, and preventive maintenance, as well as conducting custodial duties including cleaning and sanitation. They must uphold a high standard of cleanliness and organization to support the needs of the parish community while ensuring a welcoming environment for all. The position reports to the Facilities Manager and operates under limited supervision with little latitude for the use of independent judgment and initiative.
Essential Job Duties
- Perform custodial duties such as cleaning and sanitizing Sanctuary, restrooms, classrooms, common areas, and office spaces. Sweep, mop, vacuum, and buff floors as needed to maintain cleanliness standards.
- Empty trash receptacles and ensure proper disposal of waste materials.
- Provide services (event set-up, tear down, and cleanup) for Special Events Building.
- Monitor and maintain inventory of liturgical and cleaning supplies including managing equipment and report any shortages.
- Conduct routine maintenance tasks on electrical, plumbing, and HVAC systems to ensure proper functionality.
- Troubleshoot and repair minor electrical, plumbing, and/or mechanical issues as they arise.
- Perform routine inspections of building systems and equipment, identifying and addressing potential maintenance issues.
- Maintain outdoor areas including landscaping, lawn care, and ice or snow removal as needed.
- Respond promptly to maintenance requests and emergencies during and after regular business hours.
- Provide feedback to Facilities Coordinator regarding supplies inventory, light bulb replacement, and maintenance of the campus regarding trash and condition of outside trash containers. Take corrective action as directed.
- Work on weekends, evenings, and some holidays may be necessary.
- Serve as primary contact for the fire monitoring system.
- Fulfill other responsibilities as assigned to support Clergy and staff.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of Roman Catholic teachings and parish structure.
- Ability to proficiently communicate in both English and Spanish (writing, reading, and conversing) is highly desirable.
- Knowledge of general cleaning practices with commercial type chemicals and equipment.
- Ability to provide excellent customer service and work effectively with staff, clergy, and laity; working in a multi-cultural parish serving various cultures and a wide range of age groups.
- Proficient in utilizing work order systems and events calendar software.
- Ability to read labels, use cleaning chemicals safely, follow safety protocols, wear safety gear, and use the appropriate tools for each task.
- Ability to always maintain confidentiality.
- Ability to work independently at a fast pace while paying attention to details.
- Ability to lift and carry at least 50 pounds.
- Manage a preventative maintenance program for the church buildings and property to ensure that the various systems within the facilities are kept in proper working condition: HVAC, electrical, plumbing, sprinkler system, security system, fire monitoring system.
- Excellent communication skills with contractors and vendors to arrange repairs and/or service maintenance.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Must be a practicing Roman Catholic in good standing.
- High school diploma or GED acceptable to Texas Education Agency equivalent required; vocational training or certification in a relevant field is preferred. A degree in Engineering is desired.
- Two (2) years' experience in a custodial or maintenance position.
Licenses/Certifications:
- Valid Texas driver's license.
- Must maintain compliance with the Diocese of Austin Ethics and Integrity in Ministry (EIM) policies throughout the employment period.
