Job Summary
The Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance (OTDA), Office of Administrative Hearings (OAH), is seeking up to 20 full-time Paralegals to support the timely issuance of fair hearing decisions. Paralegals will draft decisions based on guidance from Administrative Law Judges, utilizing proprietary decision-drafting software.
Job Duties
- Draft fair hearing decisions based on written guidance, evidence, audio recordings, and standardized software.
- Listen to hearings as they occur and state appearance on the record when directed.
- Incorporate recommended outcomes, credibility assessments, and relevant information into draft decisions, including findings of fact, analysis, and directives.
- Adhere to New York State’s official work schedule: Monday to Friday, 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, with a 7.5-hour workday including a 30-minute lunch and two 15-minute breaks.
- Report to the OAH office as needed for training, equipment issues, or operational requirements.
- Comply with safety, professional standards, and training requirements under direct supervision of an OAH attorney.
- Use OTDA-issued equipment, including computers and Microsoft Suite software, to complete assignments.
Minimum Education and Work Experience
- Possess a paralegal certification.
- Minimum of two years of experience providing complex clerical-level legal support services to an attorney.
Required Skills
- Knowledge of basic legal processes, legal terminology, and forms.
- Ability to read, understand, and interpret laws and legal documents.
- Proficiency in legal research techniques.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong organizational and analytical skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and comply with non-disclosure agreements.

- Future Office: Suite 100, 125 East Bethpage Road, Plainview, NY 11803 (estimated move date: February 1, 2025).

- Shift Days/Time: Monday to Friday, 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.
- Work Equipment: OTDA-issued equipment is mandatory for use.
