Job Description

We have an opening for a Specialist Paralegal in our San Francisco office supporting our Complex Litigation and Arbitration Practice Group.

The Specialist Paralegal applies knowledge of the litigation lifecycle and its associated procedures to provide fundamental assistance to lawyers.

In this capacity, the Specialist Paralegal will:

1. Perform work in an efficient and cost-effective manner so as to permit the Firm to reasonably collect fees for such work;
2. Meet expectations of billable hours target of 1,725 (unless otherwise specified);
3. Under the supervision of an attorney, coordinate, organize, prepare and interpret complex legal documents related to litigation matters; build and maintain relevant databases and files; file documents and provide copies to relevant parties;
4. Organize, review, and maintain documents and case files; compile documents for filing with courts and agencies;
5. Process and manage confidential client information using eDiscovery tools, extranets, and similar, including for source code review, document review, and document production;
6. Conduct electronic document reviews, coordinate productions of documents with attorneys; conduct searches of production databases for relevant documents; and conduct other related eDiscovery tasks;
7. Assist attorneys with preparation of materials for depositions;
8. Perform factual research in internal and external databases and libraries;
9. Coordinate trial preparation; attend trial and provide support to attorneys at court and agency hearings; coordinate logistics, including local/remote set-up and travel arrangements;
10. Partner and coordinate with internal resources and outside vendor services;
11. Direct work and train team members;
12. Coordinate with other areas/departments of the Firm where overlap exists to develop efficient procedures/communications to streamline processes and satisfy various department needs;
13. Work overtime as required; travel as required, and
14. Handle additional related projects as assigned.

Qualifications:

1. Bachelor’s Degree (preferred);
2. At least 10 years of Litigation Paralegal experience (required);
3. Arbitration/trial experience (required); and
4. Appellate practice experience (preferred).

Proficiencies:

1. Advanced proficiency in MS Outlook and web-based conference call/web-sharing applications;
2. Advanced proficiency in MS Word and document editing/comparison applications;
3. Advanced proficiency in MS Excel and spreadsheet/database applications;
4. Advanced proficiency in MS PowerPoint and presentation applications;
5. Advanced proficiency with transcript management applications (LiveNote);
6. Advanced proficiency in online research and internet search resources (LexisNexis/Westlaw), as well as utilizing PACER, CM/ECF, and other electronic court and agency databases;
7. Strong knowledge of and familiarity with litigation procedures and terminology;
8. Strong knowledge of and familiarity with eDiscovery platforms and processes;
9. Strong knowledge of relevant jurisdictional/court/agency processes and procedures;
10. Advanced proficiency with timekeeping and expense reporting applications; and
11. Strong knowledge of legal billing processes.

Additional Information

Salary $112,000 – $163,000 / yr

Compensation:
$112,300-$112,300 per year
