Job Summary
A Process Control Engineer is responsible for developing solutions to complex problems which require the regular use of ingenuity and creativity. Analyzes scope of project and determines engineering requirements, establishes criteria, develops economic and feasibility studies, and evaluates engineering design and procedure. Provides counsel and assistance in technical matters to engineers, technicians, and supervisory personnel. Directs and coordinates team or task force effort toward the solution of project development and design. May indirectly supervise the activities of professional and nonprofessional personnel.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Process Control or Chemical Engineering with a minimum of 3 years of process control or related experience in the refining/chemical industry OR 8 years of control board/Operations supervision experience in lieu of degree.
- Advanced computer skills; modeling, multivariable control and DeltaV configuration experience a plus.
- Experience in a variety of process control related skills including DCS configuration, PLC configuration, multi variable control (design, implementation and/or maintenance) and instrument tuning.
- Strong communication skills, self-directed, with a positive customer service focus. The ability to contribute in a team setting is essential.
- Must have valid driver's license
- Must be able to obtain Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC)
Job Duties
- Provide engineering expertise to properly direct engineering and team efforts to provide a safe design in compliance with company policies, safety rules, and regulatory codes, and practices. Build safety into all projects.
- Develop scope for projects that make significant long-term changes that add to the refinery bottom line long-term. These may be capital or non-capital modifications that will be defined, scoped, and most importantly, implemented in the field.
- Monitor and control project costs. Senior engineers will often hire outside contractors for specific projects and tasks. They should ensure proper selection, well-defined work scopes, clear deliverable objectives, and a project timetable. The senior engineer must ensure timely completion and quality work all within budget.
- Serve in the role of trainer and centers of excellence to keep CITGO abreast of technology changes and incorporate those changes within the system. This can involve working within one's area of expertise, but also outside of one's area of expertise to share those benefits with others.
- Mentor and train new engineers and others within your work group whether as their supervisor or just as an experienced individual sharing information for others to benefit.
- Complete special assignments and outside projects unrelated to your area, but necessary for CITGO to meet business needs as assigned by your supervisor.

Job Duties II
Serve as project leader for design and implementation of Advanced Control / Optimization projects. Act as technical advisor to Process/Project Engineering and Operations on complex process control systems. Analyze control of process operations to improve and optimize unit performance and profitability. Responsible for operation and maintenance of infrastructure and software used for control and safety functions.
- Steward the continued development and sustained performance of Advanced Process Control technologies.
- Act as technical advisor to Process/Project Engineering and Operations on complex process control systems including design, troubleshooting and control loop / instrument tuning.
- Implement and support the basic Process Control System (DCS), Multivariable control (MVC), Safety Instrumented System (SIS) and Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) hardware and software.
