Job Description:
Packaging Engineer
This position is responsible for the designing and establishing packaging specifications for all North American supplied client service parts. Develops and implements countermeasure action plans to address non-compliant receipts. Develops and coordinates with PDC’s implementation of standard-operation-procedures for outbound shipment packing of parts to dealers and export customers. Supports returnable packaging initiatives, packaging improvements, pallet and trailer load density initiates and claim reduction activity

- Verifies compliance of the Client Visual Identity program for service parts.
- Develops packaging specifications for all NA supplied service parts.
- Creates standard operating procedures for all NNA packaged parts.
- Works with NA parts suppliers to insure that parts are packaged according to requirements. Identifies any compliance issues through direct Interaction with the NA fast flow receipts processing activity at the NPRC.
- Coordinates with 3PL corrugated supplier to ensure cost and service optimization.
- Facilitates the supply and distribution of service parts packaging to NNA parts suppliers
- Maximizes the value of NNA’s dollars invested in packaging materials by continuously improving processes and reviewing opportunities to reduce costs.
- Supports and contributes to maintaining packaging specification database.
- As necessary, performs other related duties of which the above are representative.
Minimum Qualifications
The following qualification statements reflect the minimum skills and abilities required of the qualified applicant.
- Experience:
Will take new grad with co-op/internship that is the preferred level. OR up to 2 years packaging experience. Senior level candidates will NOT be considered.
- Education:
Bachelor’s degree in packaging science or packaging engineering required. They may consider another engineering discipline, but only if the experience/co-op is in packaging.
- Computer Skills:
Fully competent with Microsoft Office software including Word, Excel, and Power Point as well as other specialized PC software applicable to packaging design and development

Key Responsibilities:
- Approve packaging from domestic suppliers by reviewing datasheets and packaging specifications.
- Design, develop, and test internal packaging for parts designed by Nissan.
- Work on aftersales service parts packaging; typically expendable packaging for dealership parts (individually packaged items).
Preferred Experience:
- Familiarity with packaging testing equipment and industry testing standards.
- Experience working with a variety of packaging materials, with a focus on corrugated packaging.
- Experience with packaging design software, such as Impact or Artios. Experience in either is beneficial.
