Ophthalmic Assistant
A state-of-the-art vision care center in Kalispell, Montana, is hiring an Ophthalmic Assistant. This busy office is a full-service optical and ophthalmologic surgery center, providing the community with comprehensive eye care and an individualized touch. This career opportunity has a path for advancement opportunities and certification training support. As an Ophthalmic Assistant, you will work directly with patients and our Ophthalmologists and Optometrists, gathering information and performing various tests to prepare patients for their exams. Responsibilities include reviewing patient history, current medications, and reasons for their visit; checking vision, pupil reactions, and for any abnormalities; performing visual field tests, motility, refracting, instilling eye drops, using a microscope, checking pressures, performing diagnostic tests, and dilating.
Additional Duties:
- Coordinating patient scheduling
- General office duties and assisting with paperwork
- Learning several different instruments/equipment
- Prepping the patient for laser treatments
- Preparing patients for injections in the eye and in-office minor surgeries
- Quick learner to anticipate and prepare for the day’s needs
Qualifications:
- Previous Ophthalmology/Optometry/Optical experience
- Previous healthcare experience preferred, but not required
- Customer service skills with real compassion for patients
- Continue education in ophthalmology with future goals of longevity in this career
Schedule: Monday through Friday 7:20-5:00, with 45-minute lunch break
Starting pay: Up to $18/hour, depending on experience

After working at the clinic for a year you are eligible to take a Certified Ophthalmic Assistant test. After becoming certified you must work under the supervision of an Ophthalmologist for another year and then you are eligible to take the Certified Ophthalmic Technician test.
