WholeTrees is a Wisconsin-based company that prefabricates structural systems made of round timber and innovates the products and technology that opens new markets to this naturally structural solid material. The company currently seeks a detail-oriented leader with broad experience in project management, creative production management, carpentry, and teamwork and, ideally, with experience in crew leadership, timber framing, and communications with clients and markets at large to join our fabrication team in Maine as Operations and Project Manager at this new facility.
The position will work closely with experienced WholeTrees foremen and inventory leadership in Maine and Wisconsin.
Principal Duties / Responsibilities
• Salaried position working 40-48 hours a week as a lead operations and project manager, crew leader, and, when needed, carpenter in a manufacturing environment
• Lead and manage multiple projects at one time
• Work with Production Managers and Timber Foreman to continue innovation within an existing history and catalog of avant-garde round timber structural systems and connections
• On average, twice a week for six months, serve as a fabrication labor boost wherever needed.
• Support factory safety initiatives in tandem with WholeTrees HQ.
• Help manage employee hour tracking and project allocation
Finance
• Monitor project expenses daily, review bi-weekly job reports and other financial and business documents to compare to original contract Budgets, and initiate corrective action as required
• Support WholeTrees Controller(s) in running the majority of Invoicing and A/R for all projects
• Assist in developing capital expenditure recommendations
• Participate in yearly updates to all broad-brush cost changes of production
• Prepare various reports as required
• Work with accounting to submit payroll hours for all employees
Inventory
• Manage raw material, in-process, and finished goods inventories and coordinate inventory requirements with management consistent with inventory levels/turnover goals and coordinate month-end inventories. GAP Analysis
Design
• Coordinate with Architectural Project Managers to reach project goals and timelines
• Coordinate the needs and knowledge on the Production floor to solve design hurdles
Production
• Support the development of the master project schedule shipping schedule and coordinate project activities with the Director of Operations
• Maintain quality standards for each project and initiate and manage quality improvement initiatives over time
• Communicate the expectation and then empower Fabrication Teams to ensure the project is adequately staffed to meet production levels and goals
• Monitor the needs of the facility crew and sub-contractors, cultivating a transparent and orderly chain of command between company executives through to all aspects of the Operational staff, crew, and subcontractors
• Monitor project output and budget with support from larger WholeTrees Project Management team to ensure efficient resource utilization and initiate corrective action as required
• Ensure appropriate project data is entered into company financial and project management systems following existing company allocation procedures
• Support facility compliance Company Safety policies and procedures and Federal, State and local laws, rules and regulations
Other future responsibilities:
• Work with crew leaders to focus on production, quality, and profitability in all aspects of the production processes
• Prepare forest inventory for projects by overseeing peeling, cleaning, painting, sanding, and tracking timbers/inventory
• Communicate with job sites nationwide to facilitate the installation of WholeTrees components and structures
• Assist WholeTrees drafters and project managers in reviewing and editing shop drawings for a national clientele
• Travel on an as-needed basis to lead installation crews of Whole Trees structural products
• Create new relationships to improve costs and timelines for Inventory around the country
• Responsible to the financial and physical inventory tracking of all tree inventory
• Responsible for ensuring the inventory yards meet company conditions and are laid out for efficient operations
• Assist in setting the yearly budgets for Production costs
• Contributing production perspectives to the ongoing improvements of our company pricing models
Qualifications / Knowledge
Required:
• Minimum five years of experience with project management
• Experience with carpentry, construction, or finish work
• Minimum three years leading teams toward defined goals
• Process-oriented personality, focusing on the organization of space, schedules, materials, tools, equipment, inventory
• Personable with teammates
• Flexible schedule, potential for regional travel
• Adept with Microsoft Office Suite, and specifically Excel and other Microsoft software • Driver's License and vehicle for getting to WholeTrees office and work sites • Strong intuitive problem-solving skills
Preferred:
• Four Year College Degree in Business, Engineering, Project Management, or similar
• A background in and passion for the environmental movement/green construction industry
• Experience with commercial timber frame and/or mass timber joinery and systems
• Ability to interpret and translate architectural drawings into an efficient process - start to finish
• Ability to see the whole picture as well as its parts
• Familiar/experienced with chainsaw operations/safety
Compensation:
Wage negotiable based on experience with opportunity for advancement.
Benefits and Paid Time Off begin after three months.
Evaluations are scheduled once a year.
