Job Description:
Paralegal will work within the Legal Department of Genesis HealthCare System, a 260 bed community hospital. This is a fully ONSITE position. 40 hours/week. Straight day shift Monday - Friday.
Requirements: 1) Minimum of an Associates Degree in Legal Assisting and 2) at least one full year of work as a Paralegal (no other type of clerical/office work can take the place of this requirement).
Relocation assistance not available for this position.

Legal ServicesOverview of Position:
Works with and maintains the confidentiality of confidential information while supporting the legal counsel on all matters for Genesis. Effective performance requires a high degree of attention to detail, independent judgment and action. Work is performed in accordance with oral and written instructions and results are evaluated through observation and discussion. Supports legal counsel with all other processes and activities as requested ensuring timely and accurate execution of tasks.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
1. Conducts research and analyzes law sources such as statutes, recorded judicial decisions, legal articles, treaties, constitutes, charters, legal codes to support Genesis.
2. Provides the coordination of the docket control such as managing dates for filing pleadings, notice of appeal dates, pre-trial hearings, briefing deadlines, expert witness deadlines, court appearances and discovery/deposition schedules and dates .
3. Assists with preparation or legal documentation such as letters, briefs, opinions, contracts, and other legal documents assigned by Legal Counsel.
4. Coordinates prompt responses to subpoena requests for medical and other records of Genesis and schedules depositions of hospital personnel with outside counsel as needed.
5. Organizes and prepares all hospital and other entities with preparation of all contracts into MediTract system as directed.
6. Performs related accountabilities/responsibilities and other projects as required or directed.
QUALIFICATIONS
1. Associate's Degree in paralegal/legal assisting studies.
2. At least one (1) year of experience of a progressively responsible nature or similar legal administrative experience.
3. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
4. Develops and maintains positive working relationships throughout the organization.
5. Strong verbal communication skills are needed to speak with poise, confidence and control.
6. Sound math skills to perform basic operations including multiplication, division, and calculating ratios and or proportions.
7. Excellent computer operations skills and sound working knowledge of basic office software products for word processing, graphic presentations, spreadsheet production and/or database operations.
8. Demonstrates initiative/motivation, critical thinking, problem solving, interpersonal and customer service skills.
9. Flexibility in handling changes in work priorities and handles multiple tasks simultaneously.
10. Notary Commission for State of Ohio.
