The Passaic Valley Sewerage Commission (PVSC), a publicly-owned wastewater treatment facility located in Newark, New Jersey, is currently seeking a Nurse. Created in 1902, PVSC is the 5th largest facility of its kind in the United States, directly serving approximately 1.4 million residents in 48 municipalities located in Bergen, Essex, Hudson, Passaic and Union Counties. The 140-acre plant is designed to treat an average of 330 million gallons per day (“mgd”) of wastewater with an annual average flow of approximately 241 mgd.
Position Summary: The Nurse is responsible for providing both limited medical care to PVSC employees and agents within the facility, as well as maintaining limited medical records per the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPPA). Will respond to medical emergencies throughout the facility, develop and coordinate medical plans and programs, facilitate relevant information between PVSC and its’ outside contracted medical providers, and provide essential health and safety information to PVSC staff. In addition, the Nurse will administer the voluntary vaccination program for employees.
Education and Experience: A minimum of five (5) years of nursing experience is required. Must possess a Certification in Nursing from an accredited nursing program.
License and/or Certifications: State certified Registered Nurse (RN). Must maintain all required medical licensing requirements and certifications, including, but not limited to, completing annual CEU's, CPR and AED. Must have a valid New Jersey Driver's License.
Requirements: Must be able to read, write, speak and understand English sufficiently to perform the duties of this position. The ability to multi-task during critical situations while maintaining a professional and calm demeanor, as well as develop and execute medical plans under stressful circumstances, is required. Must have computer competency with the ability to utilize medical software programs. Must be available for recall for emergencies or job assignments on a 24-hour basis.
Physical Demands: Ability to perform the essential functions of the position with or without a reasonable accommodation to ensure the health and safety of oneself and others is maintained. Must be able to perform physical activities that require considerable use of the arms, legs and the whole body, such as climbing (including ladders), lifting up to 25 lbs., balancing, walking, stooping and handling heavy objects.
Working Conditions: Workers are employed in conditions associated with a wastewater treatment plant and sewer collection system and may be required to work indoors and outdoors depending upon the nature of the position.
