ABOUT THE ROLE:
Under general supervision, but following established policies and procedures is responsible for compiling, analyzing and processing loan data. Performs a variety of clerical duties which require knowledge of such departmental procedures as completing loan documents, processing loan forms and files, computing statistics, maintaining paid loan files and inputting data. Responds to questions and/or provides information upon request from members (internal and external). Processes requests/transactions, as appropriate.
WHAT YOU WILL DO: (in descending order of importance)
- Order appraisals and title reports for all mortgage applications. Sends letter of approval to applicants in accordance with Reg B. Works with the mortgage staff, assists in gathering documentation needed for loan presentations and/or loan settlements, (e.g. ordering credit bureau reports, coordinating documents needed with attorneys/borrowers). Communicates directly with members.
- Gathering information for the loan application, verifies document checklist, evaluating credit histories for applications, collecting data from clients such as their assets, salaries, debts and employment status to fill in information for the loan application. Researching and correcting mistakes in applications for clients, reviewing file documentation for missing or erroneous information, meeting loan application deadlines, and assisting Loan Originator(s) and Underwriter(s) with requests and tasks needed to complete and process applications.
- Reviews completed mortgage files for accuracy and to ensure they are in accord with credit union and secondary market standards and regulations. Analyzes various pay stubs and tax returns to determine satisfaction of income verification stipulations. Prepares verified application and submits to automated underwriting system to verify sales ability to the secondary market.
- Orders services and inputs valuations for AVM's, Drive-by or Full Appraisal's, flood insurance, verification of employment (pre and post), verification of deposits, and title insurance. Verify the accuracy of the services ordered, and address discrepancies. Reviews and tracks title and/or appraisal invoices and assigns them to the Accounting Department. Contact insurance companies to obtain Insurance Binders to ensure Navigant CU is listed as a mortgagee and sufficient coverage is available.
- Interacts professionally and provides assistance with all internal and external customers, colleagues, vendors, and members to obtain missing or invalid information and documentation; obtains and reviews documentation for accuracy and authenticity; carefully reviews all documents for potential fraud; communicates suspected fraud and or discrepancies to management.
- Effectively adheres to pre-quality control responsibilities while ensuring minimal exposure to risk.
- Utilizes tact and experienced-based knowledge to resolve customer (internal and external) problems, explaining specific policies and products while representing the CU in a professional manner and maintaining positive customer relations.
- Reviews the final loan approval with the borrower(s) and gathers any remaining conditions to clear file for closing.
- Provides guidance to team members on job specific tasks and requirements as directed by management.
- Efficiently cross-trained in processing and coordinating closing for residential mortgages (minimum 1yr.) according to policy and investor guidelines. Working towards enhancing processing skills to incorporate additional loan types and skills.
- Performs other lending, data entry, or administrative duties as assigned by management
- Other Duties:
- Individual pipeline management and supporting additional pipeline overflow
- Quality Control - be familiar and comply with all Credit Union pre-& post QC policies, review updates, and attend meetings/training as necessary.
- Other related duties as assigned by management
QUALIFICATIONS:
High school diploma or equivalent (GED). Some college coursework a plus.
Experience/Skills/Knowledge:
- 3+ years home equity/consumer lending or home mortgage lending experience preferably in a credit union or financial institution. Previous experience with automated underwriting systems a plus.
- Excellent time-management, organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide into all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
- Strong attention to detail and ability to multitask.
- Ability to handle multiple projects/priorities simultaneously with an effective outcome.
- Ability to deal appropriately with highly confidential information. Must possess strong service orientation skills.
- Excellent verbal, written, telephone, and interpersonal communication skills.
- PC proficiency, including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Teams, Outlook), Internet, and familiarity with mortgage software.
- Proficient in mortgage loan origination software (LOS)
- Ability to function in a professional office environment and utilize standard office equipment including but not limited to fax, copier, telephone, etc. Some travel is required. Ability to lift a minimum of 25lbs.
