SUMMARY:
Purpose of the Job: Provide the highest quality support, care, and supervision for our senior residents by administering medications in accordance with each resident's individual care plan and state regulations in addition to, providing direct personal assistance and supervision.
Responsibilities and Tasks:

1. Consistent and predictable attendance. 2. Dispense prescribed medications to residents according to doctors' written orders. Document properly. 3. Provide direct personal assistance and supervision needed by assisted living and memory care residents with their bathing, dressing, eating, walking, going up and down steps, smoking, and attending to any personal needs the residents may be unable to attend to themselves. Encourage and assist residents to care for their grooming, clothing, and toilet articles, including care of the body, hair, gums, teeth, dentures, fingernails, clothing, and personal items. 4. Document daily including, but not limited to, medication administration, nursing notes, communication with healthcare providers and family members/responsible parties. 5. Handle non-routine housekeeping tasks including, but not limited to, wiping up spills, doing laundry, emptying trash cans, changing sheets or assisting a resident in making their bed. 6. Respond immediately in case of an accident or incident involving a resident. Document incident. 7. Attend training as required as well as complete all Relias training as scheduled. |
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, or Information Required for Completely Satisfactory Performance:
- Knowledge of principles or processes for providing resident and personal care services.
- Knowledge of the 5 rights of medication administration--The Right: Drug, Dose, Route, Patient, Time.
- Ability to tell when something is wrong or is likely to go wrong with a resident.
- Ability to listen to and comprehend information and ideas presented from residents and family members.
- Ability to communicate ideas and information to residents and family members.
Education and Licenses: Requires the ability to use fractions, decimals, and commercial arithmetic. Basic knowledge of grammar, spelling, and punctuation is required. Equivalent to a 4-year U.S. high school education. Successful completion of all state-required courses and exams. Valid Medication Aide license except if working on provisional pending taking the state boards. Must have and maintain CPR and first aid certifications.
Experience: 0-3 months as a nursing assistant, home health aide, or eldercare volunteer.
Special Requirements:
- Must have ability to communicate as per section 22VAC40-73-110.
- Must be considerate and accepting of the aged, frail, and disabled person.
- Appropriate attire and good personal hygiene are expected.
- Must comply with and implement all Company Policies and Procedures as well as the Employee Handbook.
- Must support and promote the "Rights and Responsibilities of Residents of Adult Care Residences."
- Must maintain confidentiality with regard to residents, staff, and Company information.
- Must participate in training and in-service programs as required by the Company and/or applicable State's Standards including, but not limited to, OSHA required training, CPR, etc.
- Staff will not accept gratuities from resident, family members, vendors, or visitors.
