About the Job
The Medical Technologist is responsible for performing a wide range of laboratory tests defined as waived and moderate by the 1988 Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendment (CLIA) in order to obtain data for use in medical diagnosis and treatment decision. Also responsible for analyzing specimen, interprets, records testing results, and reports findings to designated personnel.
This is a clinic-based position located in the midtown area of Atlanta, GA (2140 Peachtree Rd.)
No weekends or holidays! General work hours are Mon - Fri: 8:00 AM to 5:30 PM.
About the Role:
- Review test results worksheets, QC records, proficiency testing results, and maintenance records.
- Ensure corrective actions and alerts are addressed and reported appropriately.
- Ensure proper specimen collection, handling, processing, and reporting.
- Manage Medical Laboratory Technicians as well as phlebotomists in coordination with laboratory leadership.
- Actively manages laboratory inventory, expiration dates, and demonstrates ability to evaluate consumables (reagent/supply) inventory to prevent shortages.
- Oversee, manage, and perform external proficiency testing, to ensure the accuracy and timeliness of the process.
- Completes testing processes utilizing written policies, procedures, and other appropriate resources; identifies issues in policies or procedures, meets department TAT goals.
- Documents activities and results consistently, thoroughly, and legibly; proofreads and double checks own work to prevent harm or danger
- Evaluates data for accuracy and verifies any questionable findings with thorough investigation and appropriate follow-through.
- Performs pre-analytical (patient reception, sample collection, processing) and analytical procedures, demonstrates assessment of testing factors with regard to patient age and population specific groups.
- Acts as a resource for staff training, development, and competency assessment.
- Utilizes all office equipment, lab instruments, products, and other tools per manufacturers and training instructions
- Maintain track of inventory expiration dates and demonstrates ability to evaluate consumables (reagent/supply) inventory to prevent shortages; alerts ordering personnel.
- Performs equipment management by eliminating defective equipment from use, documents problem, and notifies appropriate personnel for repair; verifies equipment inspections are up-to-date. Follows through on problem resolution.
- Completes and assesses QC performance, proficiency testing, test validation/calibration/linearity with indicated corrective action and resolution as needed.
About You:
- Must have a Bachelor’s degree in medical technology or equivalent
- Certified by ASCP, AMT, AAB or meets requirements of GDHR for MLT
- Minimum of 2 year's hospital or clinical laboratory experience preferred
- Familiarity with eClinicalWorks and LabDAQ preferred
- Experienced with Infectious Diseases a plus
- Strong MS Office computer skills with the ability to type 30+ wpm
- Proficient in English, with strong verbal and written communication skills
- Excellent interpersonal, analytical, and organizational skills
- Detail-oriented with a strong commitment to producing accurate work in a timely, efficient manner
- Ability to multi-task and maintain a high level of attention to detail in a fast-paced work environment
- Proactively identify problems and provide effective solutions if/when appropriate
- Must have a positive attitude, be energetic and flexible, have excellent phone etiquette, and provide exceptional customer service

Pay range: $57,600 - $68,000 per year, based on credentials and geographic location.
