About the Job
The Medical Billing Intern will assist the billing department with various tasks related to the processing and management of medical billing and coding. This internship is designed to provide practical experience in the healthcare industry, specifically in the area of medical billing.
Key Responsibilities:
Assist in preparing and submitting medical claims to insurance companies.
Review and verify patient billing information for accuracy and completeness.
Enter patient demographics and insurance information into the billing system.
Follow up on unpaid or denied claims and assist in resolving billing discrepancies.
Assist with coding procedures and ensure correct application of billing codes.
Communicate with insurance companies, healthcare providers, and patients to resolve billing issues.
Maintain patient confidentiality and adhere to HIPAA regulations.
Perform administrative tasks such as filing, data entry, and generating reports as needed.
Participate in departmental meetings and training sessions.
Support the billing team with other tasks and projects as assigned.
Qualifications:
Currently enrolled in or recent graduate of a healthcare administration, medical billing and coding, or related program.
Basic understanding of medical terminology and billing/coding procedures.
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Willingness to learn and adapt to new tasks and processes.
Knowledge of electronic health record (EHR) systems is a plus.
