Notes

At least one year of experience in an urgent care or high-volume setting is required. The role involves seeing 250+ patients per shift.

Job Summary

• Perform initial-response screening following protocols approved by supervising provider.
• Escort patients to exam rooms and prepare them for examination, procedures, and treatment.
• Obtain and document vital signs, patient history, and other information in the electronic health record (EHR).
• Assist with examinations, procedures, and treatments, ensuring adherence to protocols.
• Administer and document oral, parenteral medications, and immunizations as directed by the provider.
• Recognize and respond to emergencies appropriately.
• Respond to patient requests via telephone, in-basket messages, or other channels in a timely manner.
• Enter medication, radiology, and lab orders in the EHR for provider sign-off.
• Provide discharge instructions and enter medication refill orders as needed.
• Perform phlebotomy, CLIA-waived tests, and other diagnostic tasks.
• Serve as a liaison between patients and medical staff for concerns or complaints.
• Schedule, coordinate, and monitor appointments and outpatient procedures.
• Ensure compliance with third-party and managed care policies.
• Participate in Quality Assessment and Improvement Programs.
• Maintain examination rooms and medical supplies.
• Support organizational goals, policies, and safety standards.

Preferred Skills

• Basic computer and keyboarding skills.
• Clinical skills related to ambulatory patient care.
• Problem-solving abilities.
• Effective interpersonal and communication skills.
• Experience with EPIC (Electronic Medical Record).

Education

• Graduate of a Medical Assistant program with a completed clinical externship (minimum 160 hours).
• OR
• Graduate of a Medical Assistant program without an externship but with at least one year of clinical experience in the past five years.
• OR
• Current Medical Assistant certification with five years of clinical experience.
• OR
• Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN).
• OR
• Licensed Paramedic/Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) with one year of clinical experience in a medical setting.
• OR
• Military-trained medical personnel with one year of clinical experience.

Certifications & Licensure

Required

• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification.

Preferred

• Certification from one of the following:
• American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA/CMA).
• American Medical Technologists (RMA).
• National Healthcare Association (CCMA).
• National Center for Competency Testing (NCMA).
