As a Mechanical Project Engineer, you will be responsible for designing material handling equipment, such as conveyor belts and other machinery, based on specific requirements from our facilities. You will be tasked with creating solutions that could range from adding capacity to a site, retrofitting areas for new equipment, or rearranging existing equipment within the facility. You will also be responsible for determining site layouts and creating scopes of work for various projects. This role involves writing RFPs, collaborating with vendors for site selection, and overseeing engineering design through to execution.
Responsibilities
+ Design material handling equipment, including conveyor belts and other machinery.
+ Determine site layouts and create scopes of work for projects.
+ Write RFPs and work with vendors for site selection.
+ Oversee engineering design and hand off to execution.
+ Travel up to 50% of the time for site visits.
+ Combine project management skills with hands-on design experience in a manufacturing setting.
+ Collaborate with teams to add capacity to sites, retrofit areas for new equipment, or rearrange existing equipment.
Essential Skills
+ 5-7 years of experience in manufacturing/industrial design.
+ Hands-on experience with AutoCAD and Solidworks.
+ Bachelor's degree in engineering (mechanical, industrial, electrical, manufacturing).
+ Proficiency in mechanical design, machine design, and equipment design.
+ Experience with automation and material handling equipment.
+ Ability to design electromechanical equipment, including selecting motor sizes and determining conveyor belt specifications based on speed and weight of the product.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
+ Experience in upstream/downstream systems engineering.
+ Knowledge of adding capacity or retrofitting inbound areas for new equipment.
+ Experience with designing bearings, shafts, and other electromechanical components.
Work Environment
This role follows a hybrid schedule with 3 days in the office and 2 days remote. Initially, you will need to be in the office 5 days a week to integrate with the team. There is potential for a return to a 5-day in-office schedule in 2025. You will report to the Industrial Design Manager. The position starts as an 11-month contract with the potential for a full-time role or an extension for up to another 13 months. If a full-time role is not available after the contract period, efforts will be made to find alternative employment either within the company or with other local customers. The pay range for this position is $55.00 - $65.00
