Job Title: Materials Manager
Job Description:
Identifies the materials requirements and directs the planning, storage, control and distribution of goods in the organization. Closely works in association with the purchasing department, production department and the vendors to analyze material requirement to assist company in meeting short- and long-term production goals and to maintain an active supply chain throughout the organization.
Essential Functions and Activities:
- Develop, implement and manage cross functional, fully integrated planning process that incorporates planning, scheduling, inventory, material and forecasting.
- Reviews production requirements and engineering design specifications for raw material or purchased parts ordering and budget process.
- Researches and negotiates with the vendors for best price/quality in the market and places order for the raw materials and makes sure that the placed orders are delivered on time.
- Oversees shipping of the materials to ensure that they there are no defective items in the materials.
- Oversees the inventory available and generates monthly inventory report to be presented to the higher officials.
- Identifies the reasons for material variances by collecting information from the production department.
- Identifies the emergency requirements of the materials and arranges supplies for the same.
- Participates in meetings, as necessary, with accounting and finance departments to clarify details of materials costs, variances, shortages etc.
- Provides or establishes training programs for subordinates in need of improved skill sets.
- Maintains on-going relationships with the contractors.
- Answer the questions of senior executives and directors of the company regarding materials strategies, issues, and supply chain management.
- Supports and participates in Morgan Olson's PPS team efforts.
- Adheres to Quality policy by exceeding customer expectations, being customer-focused and supporting continuous improvement activities.
- Adheres to Safety policies and practices behavioral based safety 100% of the time.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in business administration with specialization in Logistics, Material Management or Supply Chain Management or related field plus 5-7 years materials management experience
- Should have good negotiating skills and verbal and written communication skills
- Skillful in planning and analyzing the requirements of the production department
- Ability to design specifications for the raw materials to be ordered
- Skilled at researching the market, looking for potential suppliers and designing quotations for the purchase order
- Well-versed with the traditional as well as advanced methods used in inventory control
- Excellent computer skills
