The Materials Buyer is responsible for planning, negotiating and purchasing raw materials from approved vendors in support of outsourced manufacturing partners.

Responsibilities:
- Work with preferred manufacturing partners to identify raw materials for current and future projects and develop a consignment program to ensure materials are readily available
- Analyze consignment program and vendor performance on quarterly basis to identify new material usage trends and opportunities for improvement
- Negotiate and manage consignment programs with approved raw material vendors
- Work with PMP to identify material usage and allocate costs to appropriate jobs into ERP system
- Enter required PO data into ERP system and communicate with suppliers
- Expedite orders to ensure on-time delivery
- Review supplier acknowledgement to verify all information is correct corresponding to purchase order
- Request quotations from suppliers for products, provide specifications, and refer information to proper party
- Work with suppliers to resolve non-compliant products
- Generate debit memos when required
- Work with suppliers on invoice issues
- Generate and distribute established and special reports as required
- Maintain continuous and effective working relationship with vendors to keep abreast of new products and updated costs
- Interact with preferred manufacturing partners, raw material vendors and key internal departments to provide information, resolve problems and build relationships
- Other duties as required
Skills
- Use personal computer, calculator, data entry terminal, and other common office equipment.
- Requirements include Microsoft Office, Excel Proficiency; experience with basic statistics and statistical reporting; ability to read and understand engineering drawings (BOM’s).
- English is the primary communication language. Ability to speak, read, and write in English are required.
Education, experience, certifications
- One to five years' experience in Purchasing, Business, or Materials Management.
- Two years of college in Purchasing, Materials or Business Associates Degree preferred.
- Experience in MRP systems required.
Physical and mental demands
- This position is based within a general office with typical office physical demands including sitting, standing, typing on a computer keyboard, bending to reach file cabinets, and occasional lifting of packages less than 25 pounds
- Ability to travel 25% of the time
Working Conditions
- The primary work environment this position encounters includes the conditions found within a general office. On a regular basis, this person will be required to go out into a light-manufacturing environment to see employees and/or supervisors.
