Position type: Full-time - Contract to Hire
Duration: 6 months
Location: Lexington, MA
As a Manager Manager Strategic Planning & Consulting you will:
Job Summary:
This role focuses on Financial & Strategic Planning (budgeting, etc...). This role will not focus on reporting.
Additional Information: This position was originally planned as a permanent role. There is potential it could convert in the future. This role supports LOB's in Fremont, CA and also interacts with Denmark leadership. Role is strategically placed in Lexington department because it is a bridge between the two time zones.
Travel: Candidates should be willing to travel Fremont, CA at least once. The manager is planning that the person who is hired into this role will travel to Fremont, CA to meet the LOB leaders that this position will be supporting.
Manager MUST HAVES:
1) Bachelor's Degree
2) 6-7 years of Finance experience highly preferred
3) Power BI experience required
4) Pharma/Biotech industry experience required
5) SAP experience is a plus
6) CPA and/or MBA is a plus
MANAGER - FINANCIAL & STRATEGIC PLANNING
PURPOSE
The Manager of Financial & Strategic Planning will assist in the development of the organization's financial and strategic plans and ensure alignment with its overall business objectives. This includes developing and implementing financial plans and processes to support decision-making across the organization, providing strategic financial guidance to senior leadership and stakeholders, and conducting financial analysis and modeling to support strategic planning and business decisions.
The Manager of Financial & Strategic Planning will provide valuable insights into financial performance and trends, which can help senior leadership make strategic decisions that align with the organization's goals. By analyzing financial data and developing financial models, the Manager of Financial & Strategic Planning can identify areas for improvement and provide recommendations for cost savings and process efficiencies, which will contribute to the organization's overall success.
Additionally, to help the business review their financial performance over the course of the year, the Manager of Financial & Strategic Planning provides financial reports and presentations to senior leadership and stakeholders, which helps to ensure transparency and accountability in the organization's financial performance.
RELATIONSHIPS
This role will report to the Director, Finance and be a business partner working directly with leaders in Research & Early Development to plan and maximize their resources in order to achieve their corporate goals. Interacts closely with Research & Early Development teams in both Massachusetts and Fremont, California, as well as the local (Massachusetts) Accounting team and with Finance colleagues in Denmark.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Financial Planning
- Lead the financial planning and forecasting processes to support strategic planning and business decisions within the Research & Early Development
- Work closely with Research & Early Development department heads, Finance leadership and Human Resources to drive enterprise level financial, headcount and strategic planning
- Continuously identify and communicate all risks and opportunities against the existing forecast and work with budget owners to manage their spend versus targets and plans
- Develop annual budgets and mid-year forecasts, including management presentations and corporate leadership reviews
- Support the development of long-range planning and ad hoc analysis as applicable
Financial Analysis and Reporting
- Provide insights into financial performance and trends to senior leadership within the business
- Develop and maintain financial models and dashboards to monitor key metrics and KPIs
- Build and present month-end management reporting to senior finance and business leaders - anticipate new reporting needs based on business requirements
- Highlight key insights or trends that require attention and engage with budget owners on the best path forward
Ongoing Support for relevant Research & Early Development teams:
- Support continuous improvement within finance to streamline processes and reporting, driving value and adding insights to the business
- Support day-to-day purchase requisition reviews/approvals
- Assist accounting during month-end close with accruals and variance analysis
- Support capital review and approval process
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
0-15% overnight travel required
QUALIFICATIONS
Education Level:
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or Business or equivalent with 6+ years of relevant experience or Master's degree with 4+ years of experience required.
- MBA or CPA strongly preferred
Specific or technical job skills:
- Life sciences (Pharma/Biotech) industry experience preferred
- Experience in developing and implementing strategic plans
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively across organizations and utilize resources effectively
- Strong stakeholder management skills
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
- Excellent problem solving and analytical skills; highly proficient in Excel based modeling
- Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to effectively communicate financial information to non-financial stakeholders
- Experience with financial planning and reporting systems, ERP systems and data visualization tools
The ideal candidate will have: SAP, PowerBI, Pharmaceutical industry experience.

PAY RANGE AND BENEFITS:
Pay Range*: $60.00 - $61.00 per hour
*Pay range offered to a successful candidate will be based on several factors, including the candidate's education, work experience, work location, specific job duties, certifications, etc.
