Job Description
Provides oversight for the activity programing in the assigned areas of the community. Develops, organizes, coordinates and implements recreation therapy programs for their assigned areas. Is a part of an interdisciplinary team who provides unique opportunities for personal growth, life enrichment and self-expression for the community.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, CERTIFICATION AND LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor’s degree in recreation/human services or related field required.
- Must be a Certified Recreational Therapist Specialist
- Must be or be able to become a Certified Dementia Practitioner within 6 months of employment.
- At least 5 years of recreation experience, preferably in working with seniors required.
- 3 years of management experience required.
Job Duties
- Responsible for oversight of recreational and activity programing in the assigned areas of the community. This includes a well-balanced trip and outing schedule along with in-house programs and entertainment.
- Coordinates all programs with other departments throughout the community
- Assures that all recreational programing occurring in Health Services areas and/or assigned areas complies with applicable federal, state and community regulations and policies.
- Plans and implements recreational therapy programming in assigned areas, utilizing available resources and providing diversified programs each month based on residents’ needs and interests.
- Documents resident participation in offered recreational programming daily.
- Interviews and assesses assigned residents prior to initial resident care or service planning conference. Document and maintain recreational assessments, individual plans of care, service plans and progress notes.
- Trains and assist in the onboarding of therapists, aides, assistants, volunteers and student interns regarding recreational programming and available materials.
- Assist in developing recreation therapy policies and procedures and the monthly activity calendar.
- Plan appropriate recreational therapy interventions for residents who prefer to stay in their room or that require individualized services based on their therapeutic recreational assessment.
- Assist with the budget, inventory and maintenance of recreation l therapy supplies and materials.
- Evaluate overall effectiveness of individual recreation programs in assigned areas on a monthly basis.
- Attend all assigned mandatory trainings and in-services.
- Contribute to resident and team member communications, meetings and publications.
- All other duties as assigned.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING CONDITIONS
- Ability to lift up to 25lbs.
- Extensive walking, bending, stooping, standing, pulling and pushing.
- Work is fast paced with multiple tasks.
- Exposure to conditioned and unconditioned spaces inside and outside the community.
- Ability to assist in loading, unloading and transporting residents using vehicles and assistive devices.
- Universal staffing. Ability to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and during inclement weather is required.
- Exposure to the sights, sounds and odors of a typical long-term care and health care environment serving senior citizens, some with dementia.
