Summary
Assists in the performance of duties necessary to keep the physical structure of the hotel in good repair to include Guest Rooms, Meeting Space, Restaurant and all other areas of the hotel.
Job Duties
Ensures observance of safety precautions.
Performs inspection and reports discrepancies.
Maintains pressure boilers, electrical equipment, lifting and power distribution.
Performs minor fans and air-conditioning repairs.
Performs minor electrical and mechanical repairs to equipment throughout the hotel.
Performs rough carpentry work, drywall and painting repairs.
Performs routine plumbing repairs, including installation of toilet, sinks, and other hardware & fixtures, and laundry/kitchen equipment.
Updates engineering log during assigned shift.
Assists Chief Engineer in administration of an on-going preventive maintenance program for equipment and guest rooms.
Assists in administration of special franchise maintenance programs. Reviews maintenance problems, complaints and work orders to prioritize and schedule work assignments.
Coordinating with local health, safety, fire, and building inspectors to ensure compliance with all applicable codes and regulations.
Performs preventive maintenance assignments on a scheduled basis as per brand specific standards.
Services the hotel’s pool, including adjusting chemicals and cleaning filters.
Completes maintenance logs and follows the tracking system.
Maintains the building exterior if not serviced by a contractor (i.e., snow removal, lawn care, painting).
Maintain pool as per Brand, Baywood and County requirements.
Additional duties may be added at any time at the discretion of management.

Maintains a professional image, including grooming, verbiage, and body language, at all times.
Warmly greets both guests and coworkers (using the 10/5, first & last rule) every time they come in contact.
Actively listens to guests, responding appropriately to their questions and/or concerns. Seeks guidance and/or assistance from others to ensure satisfaction.
Fosters teamwork by offering assistance to others, as needed.
Continuously monitors the surroundings at work, in order to identify any cleanliness, safety, security, or building upkeep issues. Reports discrepancies to the proper department.
Contributes to a safe work environment by following proper safety guidelines in matters of attire, utilizing protective gear, and following safety procedures.
Recommends other Baywood properties to our guests, when appropriate.
Makes a genuine effort to identify and seize each golden opportunity to ‘WOW the guest!’ demonstrating our motto ‘It’s Better at Baywood!
Skills/Qualifications
Educational/Vocational Preparation:
High school graduate or equivalent preferred; Technical school training in maintenance and related field preferred
Previous hotel experience preferred; however, ability gained through 2+ years related employment (customer service) or on-the-job training may substitute for actual Front Desk experience.
Physical Demands:
Requires ability to stand/walk the entire shift.
Requires ability to perform light to medium physical labor which includes: lifting, bending, reach, stretching, climbing (ladders), pushing, and pulling.
Requires ability to communicate orally and in writing with maintenance/hotel staff/guests.
Requires ability to lift 50+ lbs frequently,
Walking and Standing: 95%
Must be able to carry 50 lbs. up to 25 feet.
Lifting, Push/Pull: 90%
Ability to lift up to 30 lbs. regularly.
Must be able to lift 50 lbs. to the waist, chest, and above the head.
Ability to push housekeeping or laundry cart regularly.
Sitting: 5%
Bending, Stooping, Reaching: 90% (throughout the entire shift).
Must be able to bend at the knees with up to 50 lbs., standing to an upright position.
Driving: 5% (up to 25% if hotel has shuttle service)
Traveling: none
Environmental Conditions:
Inside: Protection from weather conditions (50%), but not necessarily from temperature changes.
Outside Labor is required (up to 50%)
Essential Skills:
Ability to read and understand and communicate chemical labels, and Safety Data Sheets, Instructions.
Ability to gain knowledge of applicable franchise standards and procedures.
Ability to complete applicable maintenance forms and to communicate any problems and/or unusual conditions to management
Ability to read and comprehend manuals
Ability to positively communicate with guests and co-workers.
Ability to work within scheduling guidelines.
Ability in carpentry, routine plumbing, minor electrical work, minor mechanical repairs and safety precautions.
Ability to work with minimal or no supervision.
