General Summary: The Maintenance Technician ensures that the Zoo facilities, grounds, and equipment are safe and functional. This position is responsible for performing routine and specialized maintenance tasks to support the Zoo’s operations which will include mechanical, electrical, heating, ventilating, and air conditioning as well as other tasks such as plumbing, doors and locks, door systems, roof systems, and structural components. This position supports the Zoo to achieve its animal care, conservation, sustainability, education, and DEAI goals.
Essential Functions
Primary Functions:
Performs general maintenance tasks, including lighting, drywall repair, painting, carpentry, and furniture movement.
Conducts scheduled inspections and servicing of equipment and utilities to prevent breakdowns and ensure efficiency.
Responds promptly to calls throughout the facility and performs necessary repairs.
Changes filters, cleans drains and gutters, and ensures proper functioning of systems supporting building operations.
Maintains tools, equipment, and supplies in an orderly and functional manner.
Performs snow removal and works to resolve icy conditions.
Installs and repairs signage as needed ensuring proper placement.
Performs all tasks in compliance with company policies and safety guidelines.
Performs other tasks and projects as assigned.
Communication
Publish a daily report of work performed and any current problems/issues/challenges.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education:
High School diploma or equivalent.
5+ years of experience working in building operations or maintenance.
Experience/Training:
Previous automotive experience, including maintaining and/or repairing items such as golf carts, small engines or trucks is a plus.
Valid driver’s license a must.
CDL drivers license is a plus.
Experience maintaining and repairing a variety of HVAC systems is a plus.

Equipment:
Must be able to operate a variety of machines, power tools, hand tools, and equipment including computer, telephone, two-way radio, and golf cart, etc.
Working Conditions:
Must be able to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, 25 pounds frequently and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Physical demands are in excess of those for sedentary work; must be able to remain on feet for long periods of time, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, push, pull, climb, and balance;
Must be able to stand and remain active for an eight-hour shift;
Must be able to walk large areas of the Zoo as needed;
Must be able to work in an outdoor weather environment in all seasons and weather, including heat/humidity, cold temperatures, snow and ice, and/or wet conditions;
Ability to work a flexible schedule to include weekends, holidays, special events and to assist with emergencies as needed;
Exposure to zoonotic diseases and low risk of animal attack.
