M3 - Personal Care Assistant (Special Education) - MaST Community Charter School

MaST Schools has an opening for a part-time Special Education Student Assistant/Personal Care Assistant to work with children with intensive needs.  This position pays $15/hour depending upon past experience and would be for 5.75 hours every school day.  

Reports to:   Principals/Head of Special Education/CEO

Qualifications:

1. High school diploma or equivalent required (minimum).
2. Ability to develop a positive rapport with all students.
3. Ability to follow directions.
4. Ability to work cooperatively with professional staff.
5. Ability and willingness to perform job responsibilities.
6. Up-to-date clearances compliant with school regulations.

Job Overview: The Special Education Student Assistant/Personal Care Assistant works collaboratively with teachers, and other staff to support special education students individually or in a small group.

Responsibilities:

1. Help prepare, collect and set-up materials for student participation, following teacher direction.
2. Assist individual students and groups of students by providing instructional and behavioral support under the direction of the teacher.
3. Maintain daily activity logs for individually assigned students.
4. Collect educational and behavioral data under the direction of the teacher.
5. Participate in the implementation of positive behavior support plans as assigned by teacher.
6. Adapt classroom activities, assignments and/or materials under the direction of the teacher for the purpose of supporting and reinforcing classroom and student learning objectives.
7. Guide independent study, enrichment work, and modified assignments assigned by the teacher.
8. Assist student in transitioning between classrooms.
9. Assist students with personal care tasks.
10. Operate and/or assist in the use of student mobility devices such as, but not limited to, walker, wheelchair, braces, canes, etc.
11. Adapt to the student’s mode of communication as necessary for instructional purposes.
12. Assist in the implementation of therapy programs developed by therapists, pathologists, and other staff.
13. Participate in staff development training programs as assigned.
14. Perform other duties that may be assigned by teacher (i.e. conduct informal observation of student in general education classroom, etc.).

Terms of Employment:  Ten (10) months.  Contract terms and salary to be determined by the Board of Trustees.
