As Logistics Counsel, you identify significant legal issues and provide accurate, relevant, and timely legal support to various business stakeholders of the company’s Smart Logistics (SL) business. Primarily, this position will provide legal advice for a resolution of logistics claims, including those arising out of warehouse operations and transportation, develop and maintain SOPs for claims processes, and help file claims with relevant insurance carriers, and mitigate legal risks by ensuring compliance with all laws and regulations applicable to SL business. This position will also draft, review, and negotiate commercial contracts in the context of global supply chain and logistics services, particularly relating to 3PL, 4PL transportation and warehousing, import/export, and customs. This requires understanding of the logistics and supply chain, ability to establish priorities and take actions, while promoting good legal practices and explaining difficult issues clearly and working with others to establish consensus. Qualified candidates must demonstrate excellent communication skills, timely reporting to leadership, while collaborating within SL Legal & Compliance and business stakeholders within and outside the organization.

Responsibilities:
- Draft, review, and negotiate contracts across logistics services, including warehouse management, transportation (OTR, ocean, air, drayage, LTL/FTL), and related legal documents
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to negotiate contract terms that protect the company’s interests while maintaining strong client relationships
- Analyze claims data to determine validity, coverage, and liability, providing strategic legal advice for resolution
- Communicate effectively with insurance brokers, carriers, third-party administrators, legal counsel, and other stakeholders
- Identify and mitigate potential risks by monitoring legislative and regulatory changes in transportation, trade, and supply chain management
- Serve as the internal subject matter expert on contracts, applicable laws, rules and regulations, and policies related to claims
- Represent SL Legal in internal and external meetings with customers, vendors, partners, outside counsel, auditors, insurance providers
- Develop comprehensive reports and analyses for management, including claim reports and ad-hoc assessments
- Conduct training sessions to promote legal compliance, contract awareness, and best practices across the organization
- Manage claims litigation strategy, including settlements and insurance coverage, and attend arbitrations, mediations, or trials as needed
- Stay current with evolving regulations from FMCSA, FMC, and other relevant authorities
- Support cross-functional teams across time zones and cultures
- Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
- Juris Doctorate Degree required
- Active member of Texas bar license in good standing
- Minimum 6 years of relevant legal working experience, particularly in trucks/trailers, cargo/freight damages, property damages, maritime claims, disputes, and insurance preferred
- Able to produce reports to support findings and analyses
- Extremely organized and detail-oriented
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to communicate information in a clear and understandable manner
- Positive attitude and high energy to work in a fast-paced environment, maintain a sense of urgency, and perform with a clear head under pressure
- Self-motivated individual, assertive attitude, excel in a team-based environment yet able to work independently
- Be able to multitask and collaborate across different time zones
- Strong customer service, people skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Office products including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and web-based applications, claims platform
- Travel %: up to 10% throughout the U.S.
