Description/Job Summary
Applications are being accepted through Monday, June 30, 2024 for the position of GIS Technician or GIS Analyst within the BGMU Water/Wastewater Engineering Department. The work schedule for this full-time position is 7:30a to 4:30p Monday through Friday. The position will assist the GIS Administrator in maintenance and related support of BGMU's water and wastewater systems management. The duties for this position include:
- Perform daily GIS system maintenance tasks.
- Perform GIS data entry and database development tasks.
- Produce maps as required.
- Collect and edit water and wastewater system GIS data.
- Respond to support requests from BGMU crew personnel, private contractors, developers, and BGMU customers.
- Enter water and wastewater work order system data.
- Maintain accurate records and prepare reports.
- Assist Project Managers and Engineering Superintendent in development of field and/or office engineering data to support projects.
- Use GPS equipment.
The GIS Analyst will also:
- Assist in development of GIS and related policies and standard operating procedures.
- Analyze data and make recommendations in its use / application.
Skills and other attributes required:
- Requires competency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook software programs.
- Must have experience working with ERSI ArcGIS software, ArcGIS Online (AGOL), Enterprise Portal, ArcGIS Pro, versioning and Field Maps.
- Requires experience using GIS-related equipment including plotters, scanners, and GPS equipment.
- Must have adequate knowledge of the principles of Geographical Information Systems including its uses, applications and programming.
The GIS Analyst must also have these attributes:
- Practical experience in ESRI/ArcGIS software; ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online (AGOL), Enterprise Portal and Field Maps. Additional experience/knowledge with the Utility Network is helpful.
- GIS database management experience including: error troubleshooting and correction; data conversion; use of Python, SQL, Arcade (or other query language in broad use).
- Demonstrated proficiency using GIS-related equipment including plotters, scanners, and GPS equipment.
- Experience working with an Enterprise versioned geodatabase system.
- The ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships in the course of work at all levels, with a focus on quality service to internal and external customers is essential.
Required Qualifications
Minimum requirements:
For GIS Technician: High School diploma or graduate equivalency. Twenty-four (24) hours of college coursework, working towards degree in Geographic Information Systems, Geography, City and Regional Planning, Computer Science, or Engineering. Must have adequate knowledge of the principles of Geographical Information Systems including its uses, applications and programming.
For GIS Analyst: Bachelor's Degree in one of the following: Geographic Information Systems, Geography, City and Regional Planning, Computer Science or Engineering. GIS Certificate from an approved undergraduate GIS program. Two (2) years of practical work experience in an enterprise versioned geodatabase environment. Additional experience/knowledge with the Utility Network is helpful.
Preferred Qualifications
Preferred requirements:
For GIS Technician: Bachelor's Degree in one of the following: Geographic Information Systems, Geography, City and Regional Planning, Computer Science or Engineering. GIS Certificate from an approved undergraduate GIS program.
For GIS Analyst: Successful completion of the GISCI Geospatial Core Technical Knowledge Exam in pursuit of GISP certification. Preference also given to candidates demonstrating experience with ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online (AGOL), Enterprise Portal and Field Maps.
