About the Job
Highly successful publicly-traded company focusing on natural resources, energy infrastructure, and technology is seeking an experienced, highly-motivated lawyer to join its legal team. The position will be in-person and will report to the company's Vice President and Assistant General Counsel located in Lexington, Kentucky.
The successful candidate will receive a competitive salary commensurate with experience plus bonus potential and a highly competitive benefits package including medical, dental, and vision coverage (currently, with no employee premiums for employees and their qualified dependents), prescription coverage, paid time off, paid company holidays, life insurance, and a 401(k) plan with company match. The anticipated base salary range for the position will be $150,000 to $165,000 per year.
The position focuses on providing counsel and advice on state and federal regulations, relative to the operations of the company and its subsidiaries, as well as labor and employment matters. The right candidate will: have trial experience, be capable of actively managing and providing insight to outside counsel, and actively litigate administrative proceedings.
Primary duties include legal support, advice and counsel to various departments and subsidiaries of the company. Preparing reports and memoranda, and rendering legal opinions as requested will be required, along with other duties of a similar nature.
Successful candidates will be self-starters, capable of managing multiple tasks at one time. The position will be client-facing and, in addition to having an independent work ethic that requires minimal oversight, the position will require excellent communication skills with other legal team members.
Applicant must have a Juris Doctorate degree, with excellent academic credentials, and be licensed to practice law and a member in good standing of a U.S. state bar. Minimum of five to seven years legal experience required; with some amount of in-house experience, preferred. Knowledge and experience in regulatory compliance, labor and employment, personnel and human resources matters, and litigation are fundamental to this position. Applicant must also possess valid driver's license to operate a motor vehicle.
Working Conditions
Position will be on-site in Lexington, Kentucky, with some travel required to operations within the region (up to 35%). The environmental conditions described below are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of the job.
Environmental and Physical Requirements
This person will work predominantly in an office type environment, but may also be required to attend hearings, meetings, client interviews, depositions, etc. at external locations, and be subjected to the weather, terrain, transportation issues, etc.
While performing the duties of this position, an individual is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, use hands, reach, talk and/or hear. The individual may occasionally be required to climb or balance, stoop, kneel, twist, or crouch. The ideal candidate will be capable of occasionally lifting and/or moving up to 15 lbs. (of, in general, files and documents), working at a desk for 6-8 hours, and operating a motor vehicle and driving long distances, as needed.
