Responsibilities
- Drafting, reviewing, and revising legal documents, advising clients as to legal rights, and assisting in developing and implementing a strategy for defending and litigating the case.
- Gathering evidence in cases to formulate a defense or to initiate legal action.
- Conducting research, interviewing clients and witnesses, and handling other details in preparation for trial.
- Preparing legal briefs, developing strategy, arguments, and testimony in preparation for presentation of case.
- Representing clients in court and before quasi-judicial or administrative agencies of government. Interpreting laws, rulings, and regulations for individuals and businesses.
- Communicating and maintaining relationships with experts in preparing opinions and required reports, preparing experts for deposition and trial, and defending experts in depositions.
- Preparing responses to written discovery requests, drafting objections and designations of prior testimony in response to notices of deposition of client witnesses, and preparing and defending clients during corporate depositions.
Qualifications
- Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
- At least 4 - 6+ years of experience in the practice of law including asbestos/toxic tort defense, land use matters, and/or transportation/trucking defense litigation.
- Must be licensed to practice law in Washington State.
- Bonus points for additional licenses in Oregon and/or Alaska.
- Proven track record of managing and successfully resolving complex litigation cases.
- Exceptional research, analytical, negotiation, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong oral and written communication skills, with the ability to advocate effectively in court and communicate complex legal concepts to clients.
