Position Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled Structural Steel Engineer to design and engineer supporting structures for conveyor systems, equipment, service platforms, pit steel, access walkways, stairs, and miscellaneous steel. The ideal candidate will work closely with Systems/Layout Engineers, Project Engineers, and Field personnel.
Duties & Responsibilities
Design Input: Receive and integrate design input from engineering personnel.
Specification Review: Review customer specifications and standards, ensuring compliance and obtaining written approval for any deviations. Document deviations in the Project Engineer’s job file.
Professional Validation: Seek design input/validation from a Professional Engineer when appropriate.
Structural Layout: Complete structural layout drawings for systems and coordinate closely with systems layout engineering personnel and project engineers to ensure efficient use of steel and equipment.
Accuracy and Compliance: Ensure work is accurate, complete, and maintains carrier clearance lines. Adhere to customer and CAD standards, and apply dimensions appropriately.
Drawing Clarity: Produce clear, precise, and easy-to-read drawings that efficiently utilize paper.
Fabrication Planning: Plan, schedule, and release components for fabrication under the supervision of the project engineer. Ensure components meet installation schedules and avoid excess material purchases. Utilize obsolete inventory and limit over-buying.
ISO Compliance: Conform to ISO requirements.
Field Inspection: Travel to job sites to inspect field conditions, existing steel, and assist with installation. Travel may last for extended periods.
Team Collaboration: Work professionally as a team player and assist others as needed.
Attendance and Flexibility: Maintain regular and predictable attendance. Be willing to work extended hours, weekends, and/or holidays as necessary.
Additional Duties: Perform other duties and projects as assigned or necessary to fulfill the company’s responsibilities and business needs.
Qualification Requirements
Educational Background: Technical degree or BS in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a related field. Equivalent work experience in the industry supporting design responsibilities is also acceptable.
Professional Engineer (PE) License: Must hold a valid PE license.
Technical Skills: Strong technical comprehension skills to read and understand requirements from specifications, drawings, instructions, and other design inputs.
Conveyor System Knowledge: Practical understanding of the conveyor system layout process and common methods of supporting.
Construction Knowledge: Understanding of architectural and building construction and erection practices.
Independence: Capability to work independently.
Communication Skills: Good interpersonal communication skills for working with engineering personnel, shop, and field teams.
