Overview
The LPN will provide all nursing related duties in a program setting.
Responsibilities
Essential Functions
Provides comprehensive oversight and management of the medicationprogram. Monitors the physical condition of clients involved in physicalrestraints or demonstrating emotional responses that may affect their healthand well-being. Ensures that medications are packaged and prepared for off campus activities• Oversees record-keeping functions as related to health records, medicalfindings, and regulatory requirements; works with referring agents to ensurethat medical data is current, available, and accurate, including immunizationsand other health-related requirements for school attendance and/orresidential living. Maintains all required paperwork and documentationnecessary for the agency and for third-party billing services.• Works collaboratively with the Nurse Manager, Clinical Supervisor, Director(Education/Program), Psychiatrist, and/or the program administration(Component Director, Assistant Component Director, and/or his/herDesignee) on evaluating referrals and admissions to the program as relatedto the emotional, health, and medical needs of potential clients; developsand conducts staff trainings related to all aspects of medicationadministration, first aid, CPR, and health issues of children and adolescentsConsults with the Nurse Manager, Medical Director, Psychiatrist, clinical staff,and the program administration regarding the emotional, behavioral, andtreatment needs of clients, including health issues, medication-related needs,side-effects, and behavioral changes, positive or negative, as necessary andappropriate.• If certified to have prescription privileges, provides prescriptions forpsychotropic medications to Y.O.U. Inc. clients under the supervision of theMedical Director; participates in providing emergency coverage for clients towhom medication has been prescribed.• Compose oneself with professionalism, ethical practice, and compassionateregard for consumers/clients. To this end, the Director should demonstratecompetency, reliability, honesty, integrity, respectfulness, continuedlearning, positivity, mutual support, effective collaboration, active listening,and attention to the responsibilities of the job. The Director should dressneatly, professionally, and appropriately to the situation. Additional Responsibilities
Monitors the physical condition of clients and maintains all medical records asrequired; arranges medical and dental appointments for all residents asnecessary and in a timely manner; works with program staff to coordinateappointments and provide for transportation.• Maintains information for staff regarding any changes in the health ormedical status, as well as the medications, for every clientServes as a member of the treatment team whenever appropriate orrequested by the program's administration to provide information relative tothe health, medical, or medications for the clients; provides all medicallyrelated case management functions in working with the family, social serviceagencies, collaterals, and/or sending school districts.• Provides health-related workshops and seminars for students covering topicsof daily and personal hygiene.• Oversees the ordering and inventorying of all first aid or medical supplies,such as gloves and facemasks, for the program.• Other duties as needed.
Qualifications
• Certification/Licensing as a Licensed Practical Nurse required.• Experience working with children and adolescents with emotional andbehavioral issues preferred.• Proof of a valid driver’s license, acceptable driving record, and personaltransportation to fulfill essential job functions is required. Privately ownedvehicle has current and valid state registration and safety inspection sticker,is safe, and is ensured according to the minimum state requirements(pertaining to bodily injury and liability). As per Massachusetts state law,driving under the influence of any substance is against the law, prohibited,and may be grounds for immediate termination.• Demonstrated ability to exercise discretion, confidentiality, collaboration, andindependent judgment.• Demonstrated ability to be innovative, creative, analytical and decisive inproblem solving. Excellent oral and written communication skills.Demonstrated administrative and organizational capabilities. Ability to workeffectively with others.• Knowledgeable of level of care, program specifications, regulatoryrequirements, licensing requirements, credentialing requirements, HIPAA,and other laws related to clinical care.• High level of knowledge and competency with direct psychotherapeuticclinical care, including risk assessment, safety planning, generalcomprehensive assessment, treatment planning, service delivery, dischargeplanning. Ability to ensure that clinical care meets medical necessity and thatservice delivery meets all compliance standards.
Physical Requirements
Must be able to perform sedentary aspects of position, including, but notlimited to capability of fulfilling demands of driving/transporting clients asnecessary.• Must be able to perform physical restraints as necessary and must be inrelatively good health and be able to perform the duties listed above.
