Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) - Addiction Medicine Clinic (REVISED) - Hennepin County Medical Center

SUMMARY (Revised)

We are currently seeking a LPN to join our Addiction Medicine Clinic team. This position is full-time with benefits, 80 hours per pay period, day/evening shift, and every other weekend.   This position will be cross trained in the OBAT, Addiction Psych clinic and the OTP to provide the ability to cover nurse staffing gaps in all areas of the department due to the high need and very limited ability to utilize the ambulatory float pool due to regulatory requirements.

Individuals hired into this clinic are required to sign the attestation statement of freedom from substance use issues for the previous 2 years.  

NOTE: This position is supported by grant dollars. The current grant expires no more than 5 years from start date.  Should the grant not be renewed, your employment will cease at the expiration of the grant and based on business need is subject to cancelation at any time.

$5000 Sign-On Bonus

A sign-on bonus is available for eligible external candidates. Current employees and former employees (rehired within 12 months) are not eligible. One year’s work commitment required.

Using an automated dispensing system administer methadone and other prescribed medications accurately in accordance with policy and procedure. With the context of the Hennepin County Medical Center Relationship-Based Care Practice Model, under the direction of providers and/or the registered nurse, the Licensed Practical Nurse assists providers in the delivery of care and performs nursing functions within the LPN scope of practice. 

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Perform assigned clinical tasks under the direction of a provider or a registered nurse including: administer and dispense medications and immunizations
• Provides accurate and timely dispensing of methadone and other medications in accordance with program policy
• Maintain dispensing records in accordance with DEA regulations and program policy and procedures
• Contribute to the initial and ongoing assessment of patients
• Obtain urine sample collection and perform breathalyzer tests as ordered
• Obtain patient information and medical history including current medications, allergies, chief complaint, and immunization schedule
• Perform basic patient care activities including taking and charting vital signs
• Under the direction of a registered nurse, provide patient education from standardized teaching plans
• Transcribe orders, maintain telephone communication, and call prescription refills as directed by providers
• Assist with tracking and review of medical records and lab results
• Clean equipment and rooms. Maintain a safe environment
• Procure and stock equipment and supplies and ensure that equipment is operable through quality assurance checks
• Maintain clinical competence within the area of specialty
• Develop and maintain a positive working relationship with patient and family, team members, department and medical center personnel
• Perform other duties as assigned, but only when trained to do so

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Qualifications:

• Completion of an approved course in practical nursing
• Possession of a valid license as a Licensed Practical Nurse issued by the Minnesota Board of Nursing
• Current CPR certification

Preferred Qualifications:

• LPN positions in Addiction Medicine require one year of experience in addictions treatment 
• Mental health experience

• Must possess basic nursing skills and deliver safe patient care
• Attention to detail and ability to problem solve are essential
• Effective interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
