JOB SUMMARY
The Legal Assistant will provide administrative support and assistance with project management for the Legal Department for a period of 2-3 months during a team member’s leave. Work involves administrative support of three full-time attorneys who work remotely from one another. The role involves administrative support of various department processes and procedures. Duties include providing administrative support to the General Counsel, Associate General Counsel, Associate Counsel and the Legal Department overall, including scheduling meetings, taking meeting minutes, calendaring deadlines, maintaining legal files, making travel arrangements, and managing other projects as directed. The role includes accessing and maintaining confidential information. Impeccable attention to detail, professionalism, and initiative are required to support Burning Man’s Legal Department.
This is a temporary, full-time, hybrid position based 2+ days a week at Burning Man Headquarters in San Francisco, CA. The position will run through early May, 2024.

DUTIES & ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
PERCENTAGE OF TIME SPENT
GENERAL ADMINISTRATIVE SUPPORT (75%)
- Proactively support the administrative needs of the Legal Department, including asking questions and re-prioritizing tasks as necessary to ensure they are handled in a timely and appropriate manner.
- Proactively calendar meetings, events, and deadlines.
- Maintain the Department’s files as instructed by the Associate General Counsel, including maintaining an efficient electronic filing system for contracts and legal matters.
- Prepare accurate and timely meeting notes/minutes as directed.
- Miscellaneous administrative tasks, including booking travel, preparing expense reports and mailings.
- Light project management as directed of all current projects of the LegalDepartment.
- Occasional other administrative duties as assigned.
OTHER FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES (25%)
- Draft correspondence as directed.
- Assist with discovery and document collection for litigation and administrative actions as directed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
LEARNING AND TEACHING
- Documentation - Assists in the creation, publishing, and maintenance of process documentation related to their assigned duties.
- Knowledge sharing – Helps acculturate and educate junior staff in Burning Man culture and business processes.
- Training development - Collaborates with the education team to develop training materials in their area of expertise, as requested.
- Learning – Pursues ongoing learning in their area of expertise, working to stay current on emergent knowledge, skills, and processes.
QUALIFICATIONS
Required
- At least three years of administrative experience.
- Experience supporting attorneys in a law firm or in-house legal department is a plus, but not required.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Extremely tech savvy, including advanced knowledge of Google Docs and Sheets; Gmail; MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; and Adobe Acrobat Pro.
- Familiarity with Burning Man. Experience participating in the event is strongly preferred.
- Extremely detail-oriented with strong organizational and multitasking skills.
- Motivated self-starter.
- Ability to take direction from more than one person and manage time appropriately.
- Ability to maintain personal integrity and uphold high standards of confidentiality.
- Ability to foster a cooperative work environment.
- Professional demeanor and ability to represent Burning Man and its Legal Department in particular to a wide variety of participants, community members, government officials, and other stakeholders.
- Ability to work in person at Burning Man Headquarters in San Francisco, CA a minimum of two days a week, or more as requested by supervisor.
Preferred
- A Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent
- It is helpful if the candidate has previously been to Burning Man and/or is familiar with its culture.
COMPENSATION:
Individual compensation decisions are dependent on a variety of factors, including prior experience and geographical location. The anticipated pay rate for this position is $25.00 - $33.00 per hour.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work is primarily sedentary in nature, no special demands are required.
