About the Job
The Lead Systems Engineer is responsible for ensuring the smooth running of the AJMN’s systems/storage infrastructure. Works in a fast-paced highly collaborative team and deals to resolve systems/storage failures, security attacks, and outages. They perform activities such as remote support, configuration, and maintenance of servers and storage solutions. The Principal System Engineer has to ensure the core infrastructure is highly available, resilient, stable, and secure. They are responsible for monitoring activity, such as server usage and temperatures. They would also install systems equipment such as storage, servers, blade enclosures, KVMs, IP-PDU setup, and cabling. The Principal Systems Engineer also works on call and in work rotation shifts as required.

Key Responsibilities:- Deploying new systems/solutions as required.
- Monitor and maintain AJMN’s systems stability and performance, resolving any impact to service, ensuring key performance indicators and service-level agreements are met.
- Identify and resolve faults, incidents, problems, service requests, and change requests from the AJMN Service Desk in a professional manner to agreed service levels.
- React to security incidents by performing necessary operations as determined by the Incident Response team.
- Ensure that problems are documented with detailed diagnosis that is accurate and compliant with existing processes.
- Review implementation plans, solutions designs, and critical changes or releases.
- Supervise Senior Systems Engineers and Systems Engineers.
- Point of escalation for Senior & Systems Engineers on critical and complex systems issues.
- Provision new servers and storage systems as required.
- Maintain accurate systems information for provisioned servers and systems.
- Coordinate with other Technology teams.
- Support multiple Technology teams across the whole of Al Jazeera locally.
- Proactive in detecting systems issues and ensuring systems quality.
- Actively transfer information between one shift and the next.
- Train and mentor technicians and fellow engineers on existing and newly acquired systems.
- Perform other duties as assigned from time to time by his/her superiors/DLM.
- Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science or related field, or exceptional prior experience.
- Tertiary qualifications in IT systems related Industry Standard Certifications preferred. Advanced Certifications is a plus.
- More than 8 years in IT and Technology domain.
- More than 4 years in a similar role preferred.
- Proven experience in installing, configuring, and troubleshooting Windows/UNIX/Linux based environments.
- Design and review of information and operational support systems.
- Experience with back office products, Virtualization, and Cloud Services.
- Experience with Enterprise backup & monitoring systems.
