Lead, R&D Leadership Communications & Employee Engagement (Senior Manager)
About the role:
The Lead, R&D Leadership Communications & Employee will develop and deliver high-quality, integrated internal communications that drive global R&D business objectives and support a positive, values-based culture. This includes working with the President of R&D on employee engagement events.
By managing large projects and offering communications counsel to colleagues at all levels in the R&D organization, this role contributes to the overall success of Takeda’s communication efforts.
This position reports to the Head of Global Leadership Communications and Employee Engagement and works in close collaboration with another Lead, R&D Leadership Communications & Employee, who is focused on setting the overall strategy.
How you will contribute:
R&D employee events: Foster strong, meaningful connections between employees and senior leaders through scalable, replicable, engagements, including, but not limited to, global R&D town halls, roundtables and speaker series. This includes agenda development, partnering with communications colleagues and subject matter experts on content creation, overseeing in-person and webcast logistics, measurement and experimenting with ways to bolster engagement in a large, global, hybrid meeting format.
Operational excellence communications: Develop and deliver high-quality, integrated communications that drive global R&D business objectives. The focus of comms support is related to operational excellence priorities and programs (e.g., annual R&D KPIs, R&D evolution, organizational announcements), with the opportunity to take on communications for other projects and priorities each year to ensure the chance to grow and broaden impact. This work includes building and maintaining productive relationships with R&D senior management and leaders across R&D functions.
R&D internal communications and employee engagement: Collaborate with leaders and SMEs on communications for key R&D priority projects and topics. This includes planning and developing content to reach target audiences to drive awareness, understanding and action/change through dynamic intranet and newsletter content, internal events, presentations and other audience-specific channels. Also, this position is responsible for internal R&D pulse survey, including survey strategy, execution, benchmarking, reporting and ongoing refinement and improvement.
Leadership engagement: Contribute to the ongoing engagement with senior leaders across R&D. This includes collaborating on in-person and virtual events and just-in-time communications with a focus leading operational logistics for high-profile events and digital communications.
Communications technology and channel leadership: Act as an early adopter for communications technology (comms tech) and operate a as a center of excellence for hosting and delivering R&D webcasts, town halls and email sends, including opening mailboxes/lists and intranet sites. This requires collaborative approach to partner across communications and DD&T colleagues, always looking for data-driven opportunities to improve using automation and AI and exhibiting patience to coach and ensure excellence in delivery, including in others’ work.
Requirements/Qualifications:
- Demonstrated ability to understand and become an expert in the business’s objectives, operations and organizational culture.
- Proven self-starter who continually looks for new opportunities to maximize impact and improve outcomes without specific direction.
- Capable of leading and advising on complex internal communications topics, including mentoring others in developing and delivering high-quality communications and engagement approaches.
- High level of comfort with comms analytics and ability to extract insights for strategy creation.
- Ability to demonstrate professionalism, patience and discretion in handling challenging and confidential situations.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including a strong attention to detail and ability to mentor others in improving their writing skills.
- Skilled in creating and delivering persuasive and impactful presentations and design solutions in a variety of complex situations. Able to mentor others in developing their presentation skills.
- A bachelor's degree in communications, journalism, marketing or a related field, or relevant work experience.
- A minimum of five years of experience in corporate communications, with experience in the biopharmaceutical industry.
- Experience working in an international structure and with varied cultures, along with experience leading communications for science-focused/lab-based employee population.
- Experience managing external communications agencies and video production.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams and SharePoint) with strong digital literacy and interest in expanding digital and design skills using AI.

133,000.00 - 209,000.00The estimated salary range reflects an anticipated range for this position. The actual base salary offered may depend on a variety of factors, including the qualifications of the individual applicant for the position, years of relevant experience, specific and unique skills, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and the location in which the applicant lives and/or from which they will be performing the job.The actual base salary offered will be in accordance with state or local minimum wage requirements for the job location.
