SUMMARY:
Lead HVAC Specialist is responsible for the diagnostic, repair, and maintenance of commercial and/or industrial HVAC equipment and systems for the The Susquehanna Area Regional Airport Authority (SARAA).
Additional responsibilities may include repair or assisting with the repair of doors, windows, plumbing fixtures, lighting fixtures, baggage conveyor systems, electrical controls beyond HVAC and potable water cabinets.
Knowledgeable with proficiency in Automated Building Systems while having the ability to operate other types of equipment to perform required duties. Harrisburg International Airport is a commercial service, small hub airport that serves approximately 1.0 million passengers annually.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES:
- Having knowledge with proficiencies to perform the following tasks: operation, diagnosis and repair of various building equipment relating to heating/air-conditioning, revolving doors, sliding doors, overhead doors, lights, potable water devices, baggage handling systems or passenger boarding bridges.
- Knowledge/proficiencies in maintenance of Programable Logic Controllers, Variable Frequency Drives and low voltage control systems.
- Understanding that additional courses and/or certifications may be required to obtain knowledge with the operation/maintenance of boilers, chillers, cooling towers, air-handlers, pre-conditioned air units, and split sytems. Knowledge with proficiencies in the operation/maintenance of boilers, chillers, cooling towers, air-handlers, pre-conditioned air units, and split systems.
- Knowledge with proficiencies to utilize advanced building monitoring and control systems.
- Perform daily building inspections and preventive maintenance to ensure systems are operating properly while detecting conditions that require immediate maintenance action.
- Accountable for sourcing replacement inventory of components used in HVAC Systems.
- Comply with all SARAA directives including Airport Security and safety standards
- Coaching of other employees.
- Participation in Airfield snow removal operation. Training will be provided for this activity.
- Performs customer service to all Passengers, TenantsTenants, and Vendors within guidelines of SARAA policies.
- Performs other duties as assigned by Department Supervisor or SARAA Management.
SUPERVISION:
Must be able to direct co-workers that are assisting with larger or more complex HVAC repairs. Also must oversee contractors when required.
QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and Experience:
Must have a minimum of 5 - 10 years of commercial or industrial HVAC repair or maintenance experience. Must have a High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED). Must be able to pass FAA training as required.
Required Licenses, Certificates, Conditions:
A valid PA driver’s license with a good driving record. Must have completed commercial or industrial HVAC industry training or specialized training in HVAC systems. Possesses or commitment to obtain industry certification/licensing for handling refrigerants in accordance with EPA regulations. Ability to pass a 10-year background and criminal investigation check in order toto be issued an Airport Identification Badge.
Cognitive Tasks:
Ability to comprehend, retain, and follow oral or written instruction. Must exercise good judgment, be able to work independently, organize and document detailed information. Ability to prioritize situations or conditions with a variety of variables in unprecedented situations. Ability to interpret blueprints, diagrams, operational and maintenance manual, or procedural policies.
Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, and use hands to finger, handle, and feel; reach with hands and arms; climb and balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl, talk and hear, taste and smell. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 70 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus, and must be able to distinguish full visual color spectrum. May be required to wear a respirator or other protective clothing in the performance of assigned tasks. Must be able to work in confined spaces, and heights. Must be able to work around all types of insects. Requires working with hazardous materials.
Work Environment:
While performing essential functions of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to extreme outside weather conditions, fumes, and airborne particles. The employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, working in precarious places, with risk of electrical shock and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually very loud.
Language and Communication Skills:
Must be able to read, write, and communicate effectively in the English language. Employee is expected to regularly communicate with managers, co-workers, FAA tower operators, other departments, contractors, and consultants. Uses ground and maintenance radio communication equipment, requiring correct terminology and ability to speak clearly and concisely.
Mathematical Skills:
Ability to perform basic math is required.
Computer Skills:
Knowledge of Microsoft Office Programs
Knowledge of Johnson Controls Building Automation System or equivalent is a plus.
