Overview
The People Services Specialist is responsible for performing assigned human resource functions to ensure the policies and procedures of the YMCA of Greater Kansas City are being followed. They will have an assigned center(s) with associate paperwork, background screenings and payroll while providing broader association-wide support in coordinating additional functions. This position has a strong focus on the administration of benefits for the association and volunteers, as well as a focus in FMLA/Leave.

Hiring range: $18.00 - $20.00
Responsibilities
- Support the administration of benefits to ensure timely enrollment, deductions, collections of premiums and compliance with Affordable Care Act.
- Balance GL accounts for benefits on a monthly basis and collect any outstanding balances.
- Enter COBRA eligibility into data base and process any enrollments that we receive from outside Vendor.
- Assist with yearly benefits fair for open enrollment and administer the open enrollment data entry.
- Process retirement and track eligible full and part time employees for retirement to ensure timely enrollment.
- Support the administration of associate leave program, including compliance with applicable regulations to include Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA).
- Communicate people services policies and procedures related to assigned areas across the association.
- Partner with supervisors to on-board new associates in a timely manner while ensuring that required paperwork is accurately completed.
- Responsible for timekeeping processes such as manual adjustments, correcting exceptions, providing reports to supervisors and completing weekly payroll approval.
- Ensure that supervisors are properly trained to perform all aspects of their payroll duties.
- Complete paperwork for changes with current associates and separations of non-active associates.
- Process and review background screenings on associates following Fair Credit Reporting Act regulations.
- Perform accurate data entry of assigned human resources paperwork.
- Complete E-Verify on new hires or re-hires.
- Complete previous pay and retro pay requests to ensure associates are compensated accurately in a timely manner.
- Enter date into the Volunteer Management System to track volunteeers.
- Monitor the completeion of traiing and background screens for volunteer in the Volunteer Management System
- Assist other People Services team members with duties as needed and during any absences.
- Travel as needed to assigned center(s) across the association.
Qualifications
- Associates’ degree from an accredited college or university or the equivalent combination of experience and education.
- Two years related experience. Human resources including benefits experience preferred.
- Able to work with diverse groups of people in a friendly and consistent manner.
- Works effectively with people of different backgrounds, abilities, opinions and perceptions.
- Able to make independent and sound decisions in a fast paced environment.
- Able to exercise high levels of discretion and confidentiality.
- Detailed accounting skills to be able to pay attention to detail to avoid errors and recognize errors that have been made and be able to resolve.
- Detail oriented with good organizational skills and be multi-task proficient.
- Strong computer skills with the ability to adapt to new software.
- Must maintain a current motor vehicle license and acceptable driving record that meets YMCA standards.
