About the Job
JBS Live Pork is seeking a Swine Veterinarian for our Midwest Region located in eastern Iowa or western Illinois. This role will be a member of the region leadership team and responsible for the health of 50,000 sows and their offspring. A successful candidate will possess the ability to interpret and respond to production limiting diseases by developing, training, and executing effective strategies to support the profitability of the region while working collaboratively with other JBS veterinary team members.
Responsibilities:
- Investigate, assess, formulate, and present solutions to address health issues
- Provide visit summaries and recommendations to the production team
- Conduct routine health checks
- Implement treatment and vaccination strategies
- Ensure regulatory compliance
- Diagnostic testing and interpretation of results
- Build and maintain effective relationships with consulting veterinarians and industry partners.
- Biosecurity compliance monitoring
- Maintain VCPR with production locations
- Schedule and conduct health related technical training such as postmortem labs, biosecurity training, and vaccination training
- Stay current on the latest industry developments, research and industry best practices
Requirements:
- Competent in management of swine diseases and a working knowledge of farrow to finish management.
- Eligible for veterinary licensure and USDA accreditation in Iowa, Missouri, and Illinois.
- Must be able to work well in group settings and independently.
- Excellent communication skills.
- On farm activities are expected multiple days per week.
Working Conditions/Environment:
- General: Both climate-controlled office and environmentally controlled confined livestock facilities.
- During farm visits one may encounter dust, odors and other hazardous conditions
- During summer months outside temperatures can be over 100 degrees for entire scheduled workday.
- During winter months outside temperatures can be below zero for entire scheduled workday.
- Exposure to various elements inherent with Agriculture production.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand. The employee is frequently required to walk. The employee is frequently required to sit. The employee is frequently required to use hands. The employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to taste or smell.
- The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 lbs and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 lbs.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to wet or humid conditions (non-weather), occasionally exposed to work near moving mechanical parts, occasionally exposed to outdoor weather conditions, occasionally exposed to extreme heat (non-weather), occasionally exposed to risk of electrical shock, occasionally exposed to vibration.
- The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate but could be extreme at times.
