GENERAL PURPOSE:
The Genomics Research Center (GRC) at the University of Rochester is seeking a highly motivated and organized candidate to provide comprehensive analysis support of high-throughput sequence data to customers of the Genomics Research Center (GRC). Our interactive bioinformatics team is focused on fast turn-around of highly reproducible results using state-of-the-art analytical methods and proper handling of large quantities of sequencing data. Our team routinely researches, creates, and refines in-house workflows/pipelines to achieve throughput goals while maintaining the quality and scientific integrity of deliverables for every sequencing project. This position would mainly focus on daily operations including: demultiplexing sequencing runs, pre-processing standard project data, file system organization/archival, and public repository submissions.
**JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:**
1. Responsible for the curation and management of data from high-throughput sequencing (HTS) projects and other projects that generate and complement genomic data
2. Assist in analysis workflow monitoring and delivery of results
3. Assist in development of analysis workflow under direction of senior analysts
4. Assist with educational and training outreach of bioinformatics
5. Oversee data archiving and data deposition to public repositories
6. Performs other duties as assigned by management
**QUALIFICATIONS:**
**Required:**
+ Bachelor’s degree in a related discipline such as Computer Science, Computational Biology/science, Bioinformatics, Biomedical Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics or relevant life science discipline.
**Preferred:**
+ Minimum of 1 year of related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
+ Experience with Perl/python/java/C++/R, statistical programming using R or related tools, web-development, and database query through SQL and ability to prototype software solutions for data analysis and use of next generation sequencing tools such as STAR, TopHat, DeSeq, BWA, GATK and others.
+ Demonstrated ability to achieve results in a fast paced, deadline driven environment with multiple priorities and multiple stakeholders.
+ Ability to learn and deliver work in fast-paced and diverse environment.
