No significant supervisory work required. May provide some technical guidance for design personnel.
Education: 0+ Years. Pursuing a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering, Ocean Engineering, or equivalent
Description:
A Marine/Mechanical Engineering Intern should have a willingness to learn the development for designs of marine vessels and floating structures, such as ships, barges, tugs, etc. and performs calculations necessary to assist in the design and fabrication of such vessels. Internship requires completion of at least two years of undergraduate studies from an accredited college or university pursuing an engineering degree. Must have working knowledge of various computer software packages and automated engineering and design equipment. Previous internship experience is preferred, but not required. Must possess the eligibility to work and remain in the U.S. without sponsorship.
The ideal candidate in pursuit of a B.S. or M.S. degree in Mechanical Engineer, Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering, Ocean Engineering or equivalent with knowledge in vessel design development, vessel arrangements, piping system design, machinery selection, machinery design, and design integration for marine vessels such as oceangoing vessels, patrol vessels, offshore support vessels, research vessels, tugs, and barges. Some knowledge of electrical systems is preferred. Excellent communication skills are a must along with Microsoft Office proficiency. Familiarity with ABS, CFR, USCG, SOLAS, IMO and other applicable regulations and/or experience with AutoCAD, Rhino 3D, Solidworks, Inventor, FEA-Nastran/Ansys/Solidworks/Maestro, Pipe-FLO, CAESAR software is a plus. The ability to multitask and work within a fast-paced environment is imperative. They should be willing to travel occasionally.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
This role will collaborate within a multi-discipline team in an effort to fully develop, deliver and complete a successful project. As part of this collaborative effort, this role requires the presence of the individual working within a group setting, with regular interaction during meetings and one-on-one, face-to-face discussions with other individuals on the team on a daily basis.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before clients or employees of the organization.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
This requires normal hearing, the ability to stand, walk, reach, climb and balance, clear close and distance vision, depth perception and the ability to focus. Lifting up to 25 pounds may be required.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Normal work environment will be a business office with moderate noise.
