Job DescriptionW.F. Baird & Associates is seeking a motivated, dynamic, and personable Marine Structural Engineer with experience in analysis, design, and construction of port, offshore, and waterfront structures. This position will complement and expand our existing team strengths in coastal and marine structures, navigation engineering & risk analysis, offshore wind, coastal protection and restoration, river engineering, resiliency, port engineering, and construction management.
Job Responsibilities:
- Develop, manage, and assist with routine and complex port, offshore, and waterfront structural engineering projects world-wide, including flood protection projects
- Work across our different offices and time zones
- Manage design, engineering, and preparation of plans and specifications
- Manage project delivery from conception through completion
- Mentoring and technical oversight of junior scientists and engineers
- Participate in proposal preparation and interviews, as necessary
- 5+ years of experience in the structural engineering of infrastructure
- U.S PE registration
- The ability to analyze and design as an individual contributor. The ability to create concrete and steel drawings and details (manually or by CAD) and to perform analyses in SAP2000 or a similar FE program. Experience with deep foundations and retaining walls (or bulkheads or cofferdams)
- Strong report-writing skills
- Working knowledge of codes and standards relevant to marine structural engineering
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills (English)
- Excellent project management skills
- Flexible work style, with the ability to thrive in a dynamic work environment, meet challenging deadlines and client needs
- Ability to work well on multi-disciplinary, geographically distributed teams (internal and external) under tight deadlines and changing scope
- Willingness to travel for several 1-2 week periods domestically and internationally. Occasional assignments may be longer
Nice to Have Qualifications:
- Experience with geotechnical, arctic, offshore, or construction engineering, including EnSoft software products
- M.Sc. or M.Eng.
- Sc. or M.Eng. (preferred)
- Broad interest in multiple areas of marine and coastal engineering
- Creativity and flexibility in design, as part of collaboration with a client
