Interim Tax Manager
Our client, a leading e-commerce and retail company located in San Francisco, is looking for an Interim Tax Manager to join their team for a maternity leave backfill. The role involves tax compliance, reporting, and tax accounting with a focus on ASC 740 tax provisions and SOX compliance. This is a part-time, 100% remote position with variable hours and a full-time commitment required during quarter-end close periods. The engagement will last from January 6 to May 30, 2025.
Responsibilities
Income Tax Compliance
- Preparation, review, and filing of the Federal Corporate Income Tax Return (Form 1120) and related state and local jurisdictional returns (50+ returns).
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local tax laws while optimizing tax positions.
- Manage and resolve complex tax issues, including responding to audits and notices from various jurisdictions.
- Oversee the maintenance and updates of tax compliance software and systems.
Income Tax Reporting (ASC 740)
- Oversee the preparation and review of quarterly and annual tax provisions under ASC 740.
- Ensure accurate reporting of tax accounts in compliance with GAAP.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders and external auditors to ensure proper disclosure of tax-related items in financial statements.
- Analyze the impact of tax law changes on the company's financials and tax positions.
Tax Accounting
- Manage monthly and quarterly tax close activities, including reconciling tax accounts and preparing journal entries.
- Oversee deferred tax asset/liability calculations and related documentation.
- Develop strategies to improve tax efficiency and align with company goals.
SOX Compliance
- Maintain and enhance tax-related internal controls in compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) requirements.
- Ensure accurate documentation of processes and participate in SOX testing.
- Act as the primary liaison for internal and external audits related to tax.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA or advanced degree is highly preferred.
- 5-8 years as a Manager in corporate income tax compliance and reporting.
- Strong expertise in federal and state income tax compliance, ASC 740, and tax accounting principles.
- Experience with SOX documentation and internal controls.
- Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
- Exceptional analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
