Length of Assignment:11 month (July 17, 2024 - June 12, 2025)
Primary Purpose:
Provide curriculum leadership and support classroom teaching to ensure an aligned and articulated instructional program in the subject area assigned.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
Master’s degree from an accredited university with a major in assigned subject preferred Valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements for subject assigned
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Knowledge of curriculum design and implementation
Ability to interpret data and evaluate instructional programs and teaching effectiveness Ability to develop and deliver training to adult learners
Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
Experience:
Three years of teaching experience in subject area assigned
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Instructional and Program Management
- Work cooperatively with directors and campus principals in developing the instructional programs.
- Coordinate the review, development, and revision of all subject area programs and related curriculum documents and materials.
- Oversee testing programs for the assigned subject area and make recommendations for improvement where appropriate.
- Evaluate the curriculum and instruction program effectiveness for the assigned subject area based on evaluative findings (including student achievement data) and recommend changes as needed.
- Maintain a resource library of publications, supplementary materials, and supplies relevant to the assigned subject area.
- Participate in development, preparation, and administration of the budget for supplies, equipment, and facilities in the area of assignment.
- Coaching Techniques implemented within Coaching Cycles
- Develop Curriculum Documents: YAGS, Unit Assessments, Unit Guides, Materials/Resources for each content/grade level within the deadline.
- Instructional Support Specialist shall spend their time as follows:
50% - Coaching/Teacher Support Modeling, Co teaching, Real-Time Coaching, Providing Feedback, etc. (Submit a daily schedule to document classroom support)
20% - Student Interventions - Pulling small groups, working with students during intervention/advisory, working collaboratively with the Director of Teaching and Learning, Elementary and Secondary Coordinators, as well as principals to ensure the most effective use of time when supporting students. The goal is to implement high-leverage strategies that significantly impact student learning.
20% - District Curriculum Support and Professional Development - This role involves in-depth work with all district curriculum documents, including Year-at-a-Glance (YAGs), Unit Assessments, Unit Guides, and Materials/Resources, across various content areas and grade levels. The specialist will focus on providing support and facilitating continual improvements in these areas. Additionally, the role includes receiving on-the-job training in coaching, curriculum support, and instructional strategies. The specialist will also be responsible for preparing and delivering professional development sessions for teachers and other campus leaders.
10% - Professional Preparation and Collaboration: develop coaching materials and plan strategic meetings with teachers, focusing on crafting and preparing resources that enhance instructional strategies and foster effective collaboration.
*The allocation of time percentages is flexible and may be adjusted based on the evolving needs of the district.
Staff Development
- Plan and provide staff development for teachers, administrators, and staff. Communicate via email, agendas, etc. the date of each PD in advance to participants.
- Disseminate information regarding current research and significant developments on the state and national levels in the area assigned.
- Observe classroom instruction and provide feedback and assistance to classroom teachers to facilitate improvement and innovation. Demonstrate teaching strategies with students in the classroom.
- Read and participate in the Monthly Book Study.
Other
- Convey information to parent and community members about school programs. For example, parent videos, unit guides, and instructional parent workshops.
- Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents required. The specialist will either lead or support campus staff in conducting data meetings, adjusting their role based on campus needs and staff requirements, ensuring these meetings are organized promptly after assessments with data reflection forms utilized for documentation.
- Weekly synopsis turned in by 4:30 each Thursday.
- Required facilitation of Professional Learning Communities (utilizes district adopted PLC process).
- Attend District Events (Meet the Teacher, Literacy/Math, Academic Nights, STAAR Informational Nights)
- Other duties as assigned.
